Blue Tee Championship
As you may have read last week we are running the Blue Tee Championships this winter in 3 fun formats. There's a pairs yellow ball stableford, followed by a 3 Club Challenge, then finishing off with a Texas Scramble; not all on the same day by the way! The sign up for all 3 Championships will open on Sunday 8th November in the Pro Shop.
Event 1: Friday 27th November, Pairs Yellow Ball Stableford, 9 holes, £10 per team (includes tea, cake and prizes), 1:30pm shotgun.
Event 2: Saturday 19th December, 3 Club Challenge, 18 holes, £5 per player (includes tea, cake and prizes), 11:30 -12:30pm 10th & 11:30 - 12:00pm
Event 3: Then finally the big one! The Christmas Eve Staff Challenge. In the spirit of the season we throw down our annual Christmas Eve Staff Challenge to all you lovely members. Join us at 10:30am for coffee before hitting the 'links' for a shotgun start at 11:00am, 9 hole Texas Scramble. All you need do is assemble a team of 4 lambs and come to the slaughter.
Playing from the BLUE tees, your target will be to better the Staff Team's medal score. For achieving this you will be handsomely rewarded, as well as being lavished with our legendary hospitality in the Lounge after. If you need a convenient excuse to avoid Bluewater, or you just relish the challenge, register your team of four in the Pro Shop. It's only £5 per head too!!
Pro's Tip - Hitting the wind shot.
It’s important when playing the wind shot to make the following changes to your setup:
-Your weight should be positioned over your left leg.
-Your stance should be narrower than normal for the chosen club.
The ball positioned further back in your stance. Combining these 3 changes gives me the feeling I can strike down steeper on the golf ball creating my lower trajectory.
When you narrow your stance you will automatically lose stability in the swing. At this point in the swing, I like the feeling of staying much more centred over the ball with less weight shift. This increases my chances of a centred strike.
As you can see from the photo, linking the changes with the feeling of being more centred helps to create the desired wind shot.
After impact it’s important to keep in control of the club face. The feeling that I get is that I don’t want the club to turn over too much through impact causing the ball to fly left. The feeling I try to achieve is that I’m holding the clubface squarer towards the target line for longer. This leads to a shorter more controlled follow through.
Exciting times!
