Silver Iron
After dispatching opponents, nail biting matches & plenty of fist pumps Richard Davis & Terry Watts did battle to be crowned Silver Iron Champion for 2015. Unlike the rest of the rounds the final would be played over 36 hole matchplay, a true marathon not a sprint situation but who would come out victorious? Terry (5 hcp) would be giving Richard (7 hcp) 2 shots in each of the 18 hole rounds.
After the first 18 holes Richard & Terry made a quick pit stop for refreshments and a bite to eat, at this point Richard was 2up, playing very solidly and holing more than his fair share of putts, Terry was also playing well but a couple of loose shots down the 17th and the 18th cost him dearly. How would the best putter in the club (2 years running) respond after half time?
Richard had plenty left in the locker for the back 18 and powered on from where he left off, which ultimately proved to be too much for Terry to overcome and finally Richard won on the 35th hole to claim a 3&1 victory, bragging rights and his name on the coveted trophy. Well Done Richard!
Golf Foundation Par
Last Saturday was the Golf Foundation Par, a very different format from the usual stroke-play or stableford that we have become so accustomed to; this time it was a bogey competition. For those of you who didn't play, the bogey format is when you play matchplay against the course taking your shots where you would ordinarily get them in a stableford competition; net pars are halves, net birdies or better are wins & net bogeys or worse are losses. This is a very tough format as you can quickly find yourself quite a few holes behind.
The best of the bunch in Division 1 was the inform man of the moment Bob Florence who finished 5up (the equivalent of 6 under in stroke-play), meaning that his handicap has taken another slashing of 0.6 which takes it to +2 and the lowest handicap in the club, even further below scratch! In Division 2 Chris Carpenter finished a comfortable 4up who also played extremely well getting 1.5 cut off his handicap meaning a 2 shot reduction! Well done to both Bob & Chris for solid rounds and the new handicap challenges facing them!

Junior Coaching
Great news! After the success of his first Junior coaching program this Summer, Rob has planned another 7 one hour sessions, the course is designed to encourage each student to learn some of the basics through fun activities and games.
Week 1: The importance of the set up; grip, aim, posture & stance and of course how to start swinging the club.
Week 2: Introduction to the full swing and how to transfer weight to generate more distance.
Week 3: Pitching and how swing length can help control distance.
Week 4: Chipping with different lofts to give a greater variety of shot choice.
Week 5: A 9 hole tour plus a quiz.
Week 6: Learn how to stabilize your body to enhance your putting consistency.
Week 7: A 3 hole challenge played with mum, dad, nan, grandad, auntie or uncle! Awards ceremony.
A mini game will be added to the end of each session to test each students understanding of what has been learnt to ensure on going progression.
In addition there will be a leaderboard running each week with points being awarded for winning the mini game, paying attention (being able to explain & demonstrate the skill) and good behaviour/etiquette which will run over all 7 weeks and the final winner will win a coveted Junior Passport wrist band.
The program is due to start on Sunday 20th September at 11:00am, Rob has limited the size of the group to 8 spots so to avoid disappoint please register your interest in the Proshop. The course will cost £70 for all 7 weeks.
Day With Your Pro's
A common occurrence we find is that golfers pay for a batch of lessons but never manage to use them all so myself and Rob have decided to do a course worth of lessons in 1 day which will take place on Sunday 27th September.
For £210 with myself or £105 with Rob you will receive a detailed plan of the day, 4 hours of tuition covering all aspects of the game followed by lunch courtesy of myself & Rob then to finish off 9 holes in your groups with your professional. This very special offer is only available to 6 members (3 per professional). The 9 holes will be in a Texas Scramble format where the 2 groups will be competing against each other where you can put your new found skills to the test.
This is a great opportunity to iron out all the creases that have hindered your game this summer in a fun, relaxed environment. The session will cover all aspects of your game from chipping , putting, through to course strategy. We will use training aids, video analysis and the GC2 Launch Monitor to achieve maximum performance gains during your time with us, so no divot will be left unturned. To reserve your slot speak to either myself or Rob.
