After continuing his fantastic form in the majors not only this year but also the last 2 or 3 years, Jason Day was crowned US PGA Champion for 2015; Joe Hughes must have been rubbing his hands together after picking out Jason Day & Branden Grace in the sweepstake leaving Joe top of the tree, 3 shots clear of Andy Boorman who picked out Jordan Spieth & Branden Grace, but more importantly for Joe; his Proshop account has taken a healthy boost of £300 which he will undoubtedly invest wisely.

Betterball Competition
Last weekend members were teaming up for the Fourball Betterball Competition, a competition which is new to the calendar this year and so expectations were high. Members showed keen interest in playing and the sign up was filling up fast with 64 pairs, 128 players! The best of the bunch however were Kevin Newton & Rob Moyce with a staggering 44 points which off 3/4 handicap was a great score, well done chaps! Scoring was a tight affair with just 4 points separating the top 10 and just 1 point between Kevin & Rob and Elliot & Henry Philips in second place. I'm sure Kevin & Rob were using this to develop an understanding of each other's games in time for the Russell Foursomes KO this coming winter. So if you are interested in entering a pair, entry closes on Sunday, 30 August.
Midsummer Madness
Following the Betterball Competition on Saturday was the Midsummer Madness; a 9 hole fun competition with golfers & non-golfers. The golfers would play all the shots leading up to the green where the non-golfers would take over at the crucial point, hitting all the putts. This was the first time the golf club have run such an event and so we were unsure how well it would be supported but in true R&CPGC fashion the members were fully behind it with 82 competitors in total! The eventual winners were Aaron & Steph Read, friends of our very own John T Martin, piping R&CPGC member Will Richardson and his wife Rosanna on countback.
Once the fun of the golf was over everybody gathered on the patio with their warmer clothes & chairs to enjoy Bernie's hog roast accompanied by a well-earned drink and the fantastic voice of Motown singer Jason who managed to get everybody up on their feet dancing. A fun time was had by all on the golf course and also on the patio. A big thank you to all those members who supported this event and setting the mark for next year's event!
Day With Your Pro's
A common occurrence we find is that golfers pay for a batch of lessons but never manage to use them all so myself and Rob have decided to do a course worth of lessons in 1 day which will take place on Sunday 27th September.
For £210 with myself or £105 with Rob you will receive a detailed plan of the day, 3 hours of tuition covering all aspects of the game followed by lunch courtesy of myself & Rob then to finish off 9 holes in your groups with your professional.
This very special offer is only available to 6 members (3 per professional) so make sure you avoid disappointment and reserve your space now, sign up is available in the Proshop.
