Captain's Prize
The highlight of Peter's year was finally upon us this weekend and members were out in force with 155 players on Saturday and 112 players on Sunday. It seemed as if most players were saving their 'A game' for this weekend as the scoring was very impressive requiring 38 points or better to get amongst the Saturday prizes. Best of the day however was from Bob Florence with an enormous 41 points, snatching the lead from John T Martin who recorded 40 points.
As folk set off for their second round on Sunday they were eyeing Bob's 41 points wondering if they would be able to catch him. Sadly Bob couldn't quite reproduce and drifted back to the field. Best score of the day came from Rob Osmond. His 40 points adding to a fine first round of 35 points giving him a final score of 75, surely enough to claim victory? Unfortunately for Rob, David Ford had other ideas. With rounds of 39 & 37 David took the title by a point, adding Captain's Prize to his rapidly mounting victories including the Drury Challenge Cup & the Wood Cup. If that wasn't enough for David he also had his handicap slashed by 1.2, taking him to a very respectable 7.3!

Terry, John & Graham Charity weight guess
Sometimes inspiration for our newsletters can be difficult to come by but then other times it just walks through the door. Such happened on Saturday when the rounded shapes of Terry Wickham, Graham West & John Bullock ambled through the door at the same time, each sporting a brightly coloured shirt.
They have very graciously agreed to do a guess the weight competition for our Captain's Charity, their idea I assure you. Entry fee is £2, half will go to the charity and the other half will go to the person who makes the closest guess to their combined weight. If you don't already know these guys don't be deterred, just think BIG!
Make your guess (or guesses!) in the ProShop now and the winner will be announced at the end of July, all guesses need to be in lbs and just remember its all for charity!!
The Open Weekend
The penultimate major is just round the corner which means our annual Open Championship Putting Competition is also back and last year's winner Terry Watts will not be giving up his crown without a fight. This illustrious event will take place on Sunday, 19th July 11:30 -1:30pm with an entry fee of £1 per putt.
Short game is key for anyone hoping to win The Open. In recognition of this I will be running clinics over all four days of the championship tailored to various aspects of the short game so you can endeavour to get you name on those elusive honours boards. Each session will cost £10 and there will be sign up sheets in the ProShop.
Carrying on with the short game theme we will also be offering putter and wedge fitting services, so once you have picked up my pearls of wisdom you can get fitted to ensure you are using the correct equipment to maximise the results!
Range Clearing
Last Friday we collected all those errant range balls that unaccountably drifted into the long rough.
Bill Middleditch, Phil Pitcher & Martin Simpson worked their fingers to the bone and managed to collect well in excess of 1500 golf balls, saving the members £500.
Which one of you did that!!
We gave them a complimentary drink to re-hydrate and a range card each.
A big thank you must go to Bill, Phil & Martin for giving up their time, it means an enormous amount to us when we enjoy such support.
Well done guys!
