5 Club knock-out decided
Last Thursday saw the 5 Club Knock-Out come to a conclusion as Mark Sandy overcame David Ferrers to win by a resounding 4&3. Hats off to both players, they battled their way through many tough rounds and competitors to reach this prestigious final.
If Mark thought deciding which of his 14 troops to take into battle was a hard decision, an even harder decision will be to decide whether or not he needs the other 9! Like every true champion Mark is looking for further success and to this end he is looking at retiring his current irons, letting them go out on a high.
Every golfer searches for constant improvement. Mark's eye has been taken by the Srixon Fitting Cart, new to the Pro Shop for 2015 and Mark is interested to see what it has to offer. Having booked a fitting, hopefully we can lead him to even more success and he may even get to use the whole set!
The Range Is Busy
Excited About New Products
On Saturday the Golfing Gods must have been looking down on us with a smile because we seemed to have what resembled a spring day! The turn in the weather brought members out in their droves, with a lot of them opting to utilise the excellent practice facilities. It seems as though The Masters fever is growing and last minute preparations are taking place to ensure a successful summers golf. Or maybe it was news of James Nunn's success with his new TaylorMade R15 Driver that has spurred people on to up their driving game?
After attending our TaylorMade demo day last weekend James got fitted for the R15 driver, which has turned his fade into a draw and after putting it through its paces, for its first 18 holes, James hit 11 out of 12 fairways! Golf is a much easier game from the short stuff, don't you think James?
I work closely with James on his game. Albeit that the new technology is working, though I'd like to think some of my wisdom has contributed to the improvement. Here's what James had to say about the recent change:
“First time out of the box at the Mid Week Medal a couple of weeks back, I hit 11 of the 12 fairways I used the R15 on. Having been through the fitting process, I felt supremely confident over the ball, knowing that I had the right driver for me in my hand. 40 putts in 18 holes however is a different problem! Do you do putter fittings Warren?“.
On Top Of Their Game
Mark Lee and Roger Robinson moved a step closer to cracking this wonderful game by simply finding out how far they carry the golf ball. Sometime addressing the simply things can make the world of difference. Total distance is one thing but understanding how far the ball carries is critical to making great club choices.
Trade Ins
In addition to the bag trade in offer, we will also be running 2 new trade ins.
The first will be a shoe trade in. All you need to do is bring in your old, tired and worn out shoes for £20 OFF selected adidas and FootJoy shoes. The fairways will be your catwalk for the summer in your shiny new pumps!
The second offer will be on lithium batteries. Once again all you will need to do is bring in your trolley battery and you will be entitled to £25 OFF a new Motocaddy or LitePower lithium battery. However, taking the batteries out of the TV remote wont get you the £25 discount.
Poker Night & Masters Big Screen
The poker Night has been arranged for Thursday 9th April, which is also the first day of The Masters. In addition to the Poker Night we will be showing live coverage of The Masters on the big screen, so if the chips are down and you make a premature exit from the Poker Night, you can always track how your sweepstake picks are getting on.
Masters Sweepstake
It's that time of year again, the winter months have passed and Spring is upon us which means one thing...The Masters. A tournament that is closer than any other to my heart and some day my dream would be to walk the final round in person with, who else, my dear old dad!
Along with The Masters comes the Pro Shop Sweepstake. Last year the sweepstake was a huge success and widely contested, with Sue Siddle coming out victorious. For those of you that are unaware, entry is very simple. All you have to do is pick 4 players from the field (1 of which must be in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings) from the 4 players we take an aggregate score for the tournament and the lowest score at the end of the week wins. In the case of your player/s missing the cut, their 36 hole score will be doubled to get a 72 hole total. Entry fee will be £10 per team and entry will be in the Pro Shop.

Rob's Picks For The Masters
Every year The Masters never seems to disappoint. There is always excitement and surprise, whether it be Rory McIlroy imploding on the back 9 on Sunday afternoon, or Angel Cabrera having a dormant season then suddenly coming to life at Augusta. Then you get the usual suspects such as Lee Westwood featuring for 3 days but never quite holing enough putts, or Fred Couples leading 27 holes before running out of steam. This year promises to be one of the best years, with 16 rookies and some of the best young talent, the scoring could be exceptional.
There are 3 players to watch in my eyes. The first is Patrick Reed, because not only is he in good form but also has the confidence in his ability to play the hero shot, which is always needed to win any tournament. The next is one that I always back going into The Masters and that is Jason Day. Purely because he hits it a country mile and can manoeuvre the ball; he was injured last year so it will be interesting to see how he fares. Rickie Fowler is my last pick because he is a very silky putter and on the fast Augusta greens that is what you need, as the saying goes drive for show, putt for dough.
For those of you seeking a pre season refresher on the fundamentals, don't forget the first of my 4 clinics starts on Sunday 5th April. For those of you that might be interested there are still 2 spaces available, contact me in the shop to reserve a slot.
