Club Fitting Day Successes
On Saturday we had the TaylorMade demo day, however, at the 11th hour we received a phone call from the rep saying he was unwell and wouldn't be able to make it. Such is the quality of the fitting service we provide, the day still went ahead and was a complete success. With the help of Matt Haines and Keith, I was able to cover all of the appointments and fit everybody with the clubs perfect for their needs.
Of course not forgetting Bob Florence who clearly had his Weetabix that morning and single handily carried our TaylorMade fitting centre from the Pro Shop to the teaching hut...and I do mean 'single handed'...over his shoulder.
In essence, having the fitting centre allowed us to stage our own demo day, having the same tools at our disposal as the rep would have. After 13 appointments completed and a hint of frost bite in my toes, everybody walked away happy. Paul Melville added on average 14 yards to his iron shots ensuring the 'Rock Steady Eddy' nickname belongs to him. Terry Wickham started the day without any hybrids or fairway woods but after the fitting he has now bridged the gap between his irons and driver, giving him more variety of shots. James Nunn had previously been hitting a fade with his driver but after experiencing the R15, that fade has now turned into a draw meaning he has now gained those extra yards off the tee. Tony Evans also test drove the R15, with the help of the GC2 Launch Monitor. He is now using a stiff shaft which is much more suitable for his swing speed rather than the regular flex he was using. Tony's now hitting the ball so far he is going to have to shout 'FIVE!'
Tuesday saw the arrival of our PING Demo Day and thankfully the fitter Morgan showed up. A further 13 members and 2 guests were fitted for a variety of new bits, all searching for those extra few yards and greater consistency. Staggeringly the majority of the fits achieved exactly that! This confirmed to me that the fitting process really does work and customising your equipment is the one true way of gaining performance.
Over the coming months I'll keep a close eye on all those fitted and will happily report back any successes, of which I'm sure will be many. As always the support is much appreciated.
Rob and the Junior Passport
A few weeks ago I wrote about The Junior Passport which has had a good response. For those of you that didn’t see it last time, The Junior Passport is a course of lessons aimed at introducing juniors to golf in the correct manner, with the correct values and getting them on the golf course as soon as they are ready. For more details on what the course will entail please click here.
The Junior Passport will start on 12th April at 13:00 with each session lasting for 60 minutes. Register your interest in the shop.
Ruby West
Last Saturday saw the return of the Ruby West, a stableford competition for 16 handicaps and above. As the day rolled on more and more players were coming into the shop looking completely dejected, that is until they saw that the stableford points were not quite the cricket scores they were expecting. The elements had actually made scoring very tough.
Graham Smith on 35 points was too good for an emerging Stephen Lane on 34 points. Neither of them however had quite enough to better the winning score of 36 points amassed by Dave Grout. Well played David!
Rob's Short Game Clinics
With The Masters right around the corner, all of the big guns will be out to play which generally signals the start of the season. Rory and the rest of the boys have been grinding through the winter to ensure they have a successful season on their respective tours. So in order for you to feel competitive for the season to come, I have put a series of short game clinics together to refresh your memory on the fundamentals.
- Bunker play Sunday 5th April at 10:30 – 11:30
- Putting Sunday 12th April at 10:30 – 11:30
- Chipping Sunday 19th April at 10:30 – 11:30
There are still a few places available and will be on a first come, first served basis. Each session being limited to 4 people. The sessions will last for 60 minutes and will cost £10 per session.
Wood Cup/Drury Challenge Booking sheets for both these competitionss will open Saturday 28th March.
