Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we have recent results from around the club, we take a look at the work being carried out on the course, and we talk you through the swing of the Club Champion. Enjoy the read!

Competition news

Monthly Medal & Burden Trophy

The R&CPGC patrons were back in competitive action at the weekend in the Monthly Medal & Burden Trophy. There were 130 players up for the challenge but there could only be one winner...

Conditions were pretty tough as only 8 people managed to shoot to their handicap or better. One of those players was Mike Puddy who, off scratch, fired in a nett 69 to take the spoils in Division 1. Mike's round started pretty slowly reaching the turn at +1 but Danny must have put something in the sausage rolls this week as Mike fired in a -3 back nine!

For all his efforts, Mike didn't reach the summit of victory because from Division 2, Danny Gibbons had a wonderfully crafted nett 68. Danny's round was as relaxed as a game of golf could be with two 9's of 41 two under handicap, he clinched victory by 1 shot.

Kent Foursomes

Last Sunday we had the men taking on Knole Park Golf Club in the 1/4 Final of the Kent Foursomes here at R&CPGC.

Match one saw Nick Panting and Ricky Hall win 1 UP against Jordan Hicks and Dom Driver. In match 2 it was Bob Florence and Rob Osmond against Josh Patmore and Sam Steadman. Bob and Rob narrowly lost their match 1 DOWN after the visitors holed a clutch 25 foot putt at the 18th.

This meant the match was tied and so match 2 had to go to sudden death. The 1st extra hole was halved in 4 but we were victorious at the 2nd extra hole thanks to a solid par by Bob and Rob.

Congratulations to the players. We now face either Sheerness or Cherry Lodge at home in the semi final.

Greens Maintenance

The R&CPGC patrons' season is drawing to a close and there's just a few competitions left and so with a couple weeks off, Danny and the greenstaff have an ideal opportunity to give the greens a well earned facelift.

You'll see below Danny guiding the Graden machine down the green. This slits 20mm below the surface in order to pull out any unwanted and potentially harmful grasses to the greens. The Graden also fills the gaps back up with dry sand and brown top bent grass seed in order to aid growth and repair.

Next Mick is following Danny's trail of destruction with the Core Collector which basically collects all of the before mentioned unwanted bits. The green is then rolled to smooth out the surface and to avoid bumpy greens. Finally, one of the boys uses a leaf blower to remove excess mess that the Core Collector couldn't pick up.

This is one of very few big maintenances that causes major disruption and so we are grateful for your understanding that this work needs to be done in order for you to enjoy such a great golf course for the rest of the year.

On the plus side, Danny has given a 2 week recovery time and the greens should be in tip top shape again before you know it!

Range clear...

Danny & the boys will be making a start on cutting the rough down for the winter during the first week of September and so the errant range balls in the long grass that lines either side of the driving range will need to be collect.

So if any of you are at a loose end on Friday 30th August between 3:30pm & 5:00pm and could lend a helping hand we would be very grateful. As our way of saying thank you, we will give you a free range card and a pint of your favourite dabble after all your hard work.

Club Champion's Swing

A week after his sensational victory at The Club Championship, I thought you would like to know why Sam's swing allowed him such an impressive score, why it's not a perfect swing and why that can be a help rather than a hindrance. Take a look at the video below...

Junior Coaching

Rob: There are still spaces left in my Junior Summer Coaching Camp on Thursday 29th August, 12:00pm - 2:00pm. This session will focus on short game around the greens and putting where the fun mini games will allow the kids to track their progress and can be easily used in their own practice sessions in the future.

The Junior Committee have kindly offered to subsidise the cost for all R&CPGC Junior Members by 1/2 price, making their entry just £12.50. The simple shoe equation

Adjust to your surroundings

Driver adjustability has been a marketing buzz term for a number of years now, but how much of a difference will it really make to your game? Well, we decided to find out.

We could bamboozle you with tech speak when it comes to adjustability but there are two key ways in which today's drivers can be adjusted to suit your swing, making a custom fitting more important than ever before.

Perimeter weighting

The first is by moveable weights on the sole of the club that can be adjusted to promote a draw, fade or netural ball flight.

Hosel adjustability

The second is the ability to adjust loft and lie angles in the hosel.
