Brice Bowl Last Thursday saw the 2019 Brice Bowl, our Men’s Open here at Rochester & Cobham. This year we had 60 players competing in very tough conditions with the greens fast, the pins tucked away and a strong blustery wind to contend with.
|
The scoring reflected the tough conditions, with gross 72's leading the way in the morning from home player Shaun Macklin and away player Darren Noel. But hot on their tails were a host of players within two shots, including Mike Bush and Nick Panting. Before the afternoon round took place the green staff went back out to change the pin positions again, cut and roll the greens for a second time and also changed some tee positions, all making for another difficult round of golf. The wind continued to howl for much of the afternoon and the scoring didn’t improve an awful lot. We did however see two gross 70’s from Alfie Hickman and our eventual winner Mike Bush. Mike started the afternoon round with a double-bogey but quickly made amends with birdies on the 2nd and the 3rd. He then parred 12 of the next 13 holes before grabbing a birdie at the 17th. Knowing one more birdie might just get him in contention he hit a perfect drive down the last, leaving a pitching wedge for his approach. The wedge shot never left the flag but finished 20 feet or so long of the hole. No matter though as he sunk the putt, the crowd cheered and as they say “the rest is history”!

Kent Amateur Championship The following day was the Kent Amateur Championship at Sittingbourne & Milton Regis GC where Nick Panting, George Crow, Ryan Godwin, Shaun Macklin & Jamie Wood were representing R&CPGC.
|
Day 1 consisted of 36 holes of strokeplay where the top 16 players would advance to the matchplay knockout format. Four of the five R&CPGC patrons made it through with Jamie Wood finishing second in the gross strokeplay leaderboard and first in the nett. Jamie and George were going head to head in the first round where Jamie would advance to face fellow R&CPGC member Nick Panting. Jamie would come out on top of that one as well and make it to the final day where a semi final match against Kipp Popert was waiting. After a well deserved nights rest, Jamie would dispatch of Kipp and book his place in the final against Charlie Hickling from Wildernesse GC. Unfortunately it wasn't to be the fairy-tale ending for Jamie as Charlie proved too strong for him and run out 3&2 winner. To add to the R&CPGC collection of silverware Nick Panting, Shaun Macklin & Ryan Godwin won the team event and get to represent Kent in the national final in September at Romford Golf Club.

Kent Foursomes On the same Sunday, R&CPGC were in action at Mid Kent GC in the Kent Foursomes where each team chooses the best 4 players to go head to head in foursomes matchplay and each match is played to a conclusion to give a total overall score.
|
On a very different style of golf course to what our boys are used to, they performed exceptionally well by winning the first match 4UP and the second match 3UP to give a 7UP winning score. The next round opponents are yet to be discovered but whoever they are, I'm sure they'll be up against a very good R&CPGC side!

Pro Am I would just like to thank the R&CPGC patrons for getting behind the Pro Am this year and I can proudly say it is now FULL! We have 26 teams going to do battle on Thursday 27th June but if you want to be a part of the day we are looking for volunteers to help out in the morning and for giving up your time we will treat you to breakfast. If you are available to help out contact the ProShop on 01474823658 or email warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk. US Open Sweepstake The US Open gets underway this week and so all eyes will be on Pebble Beach and whether or not the USGA will make another catastrophe of America's biggest golf competition. I can guarantee, however, you will be watching intently to see how your sweepstake team is getting on! You will be able to track your teams progress via the club website or ProShop noticeboard on Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday morning and if that's not enough we will have a LIVE LEADERBOARD on Sunday evening so you can keep right up to date!

A good showing at Donnington The EuroPro Tour headed to Donnington Grove GC, a par 72 set in the country side of Berkshire. Alfie Plant, Michael Saunders & Freddie Price were in action and here's how they got on... Unfortunately Freddie missed the 2 round cut but Alfie & Michael were in great shape sitting just 2 and 3 shots off the leader respectively. A final round of 72 for Michael saw him finish tied fifth and pick up a healthy cheque. Alfie needed to birdie the last hole in order to apply pressure to the eventual winner Mikael Lundberg to make par or better down the last to secure victory. A tied second finish for Alfie gave him a decent payday.

Callaway Fitting Day The R&CPGC patrons have crawled over each other to make sure they get their fitting time with our Callaway expert, Alex Hunter, so much so all the times have been taken! Worry not though as we have arranged for Alex to come down 2 hours earlier at 12:00pm making room for 4 more fitting times. If you want to see what the BRAND NEW Epic Flash, Rogue or Apex can do for your golf then contact the ProShop on either 01474823658 or email warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk.
Bonus Ball Last week we had 2 lucky winners with number 43, John Daly & John Trendler. John Daly (not THE John Daly) bagged himself an Under Armour shirt and pullover & John Trendler won 2 Peter Millar shirts. This week’s sheet is underway so make sure you get your name down to be in with a chance of winning some awesome prizes.

Earn yourself some money It's always nice to get something for our old bits and bobs. Take your car for example, with many people now taking the opportunity to get money off a new car by part-exchanging their old car as part of the deal. Well, we're now running a brilliant offer with our friends at Motocaddy, which will see you get up to £60 back in cash (minimum return is £50) when you trade-in your old electric trolley whilst purchasing a new Motocaddy electric trolley in-store. |

If you’re an equipment junkie, there’s nothing quite like standing on the first tee clutching the latest driver – especially, with the marketing promise of faster ball speeds and greater distance firmly in your mind. The question is, should this be your number one priority with the big stick in hand? |
With the US Open taking place at Pebble Beach this week, one thing the world’s best will need in abundance is accuracy off the tee. Penal rough, fairway bunkers aplenty and the Pacific Ocean combine to create one of the hardest tests in golf. |
Introducing Srixon's Z 785 driver One driver that will be in golfers' bags at Pebble Beach is this beauty from Srixon. The Z 785 is the only driver in the brand's range for 2019, which says everything it needs to about the quality of this model. It boasts exceptional distance as well as great forgiveness, combining to create a driver that is suited to lots of different golfers. So, what are you waiting for? Come and have a chat to us in the shop and we can start you on your journey to better golf this summer. |
