Welcome to another edition of our newsletter, in this week’s mail we re-cap on a successful Captain’s Charity Day, The Perman Shield team got their defence underway, and Rob’s Half Term Coaching Camp gets underway next week. Enjoy the read!

Captain's Charity Day Last Saturday we had the Captains' Charity Day where Captain John Bullock and Lady Captain Sarah Brice were raising money for their chosen charity, the Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.
|
The charity delivers expert care and support to seriously ill children and their families. They aim to give every seriously ill child a specialist nurse with in depth knowledge, skills and experience tailored to their needs. Over the next few years the charity aims to provide additional training to current Roald Dahl nurses to expand their knowledge as well as promote their presence and provide them with support. Captains John & Sarah took over the halfway hut for the day to fuel the weary golfers with baguettes, sweets, soft drinks and alcohol. They could tell who was having a good round by what they ordered; the more successful ones were sticking to soft drinks while the not so good ones dived into the alcohol. |

Meanwhile on the 16th hole, we had the Beat the Pro Challenge where the R&CPGC patrons wagered anything between £5 and £50 in the hope they can double their money! Attached Professional Michael Saunders and your esteemed PGA Professional were the ones the patrons had to beat. The 16th was playing tough, into a draft which sometimes crept up a little stronger, to a back right pin location which was showing 208 yards on the Bushnell. A tough shot for anybody, especially with the new run off area and deep bunker waiting for those leaked shots. There were 29 teams of 4 battling it out in the name of charity in a fun 2-3-4 format. On stroke indices 1-6 all four stableford scores were to be used, stroke indices 7-12 three scores & 13-18 two scores. Returning home with a whopping 114 points and claiming victory were Ray Pointing, Stuart Waghorne, Peter Hynes & Joe Hughes. The total donations has yet to be tallied but when they have been done we shall keep you posted. However, we do know the £10,000 hole in one prize is safe for another year unfortunately!

| I blew the cobwebs off for this one! |
| Good job Jon couldn't see the hole in one prize sign, it might have put him off!

Perman Shield vs. Knole Park The Perman Shield team got their defence underway on Sunday with a tough home draw against Knole Park. The morning foursomes could have been a total disaster because at one point all four matches were down, but such is the class of the side they all managed to claw the games back to the 18th where R&CPGC came out 3.5 - 0.5 up. Only 3 points were needed from the afternoon singles... The singles weren't quite so tight in the afternoon, however, Jack Challis claimed the first match, a loss in the second match followed but R&CPGC only dropped a half point from the remaining 6 matches to record a comfortable first win. An away tie against either Langley Park or Royal Blackheath GC awaits in the next round.

Half Term Junior Coaching If you need inspiration to keep the kids entertained this half term why not try Rob's Junior Coaching Camp? On Thursday 30th May between 12:00pm and 2:00pm Rob will be out on the practice ground showing the kids different aspects of the game. Utilising fun mini games, the kids will be able to track their progress so if they use them in their practice they can see improvement. Each game will be based around certain fundamentals such as aiming or distance control, for example. The Camp is limited to 8 juniors so if you want to reserve a spot then make sure you do it sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. The Junior Committee have kindly offered to pay half of the fees for any R&CPGC junior member wishing to attend.

Ray picked up 2 Peter Millar shirts and Jordan has an Under Armour shirt and 1/4 zip. This week's sheet is underway so remember...you've got to be in it to win it!

[* END *] [* END *] Most overlooked club in the bag? |
Thankfully, the penny has dropped when it comes to the importance of getting custom fitted for a new driver or set of irons. Unfortunately, we still see the vast majority of golfers overlook this process when it comes to their fairway woods, but why? |
| How often do you use yours? |
|
“I wouldn’t use it often enough” “It's too expensive” “It's not necessary” Yeah, I guess if you’re not concerned with shooting lower scores and maximising your potential then a custom fitted fairway wood isn’t that important. However, if improving your game is something you want to achieve, then having a full set of custom fitted clubs is vital, especially when it comes to gapping between your driver and irons.

Srixon Z F85 fairway woods One option that we'll definitely get you to try is this beauty from Srixon. It's the only fairway wood in their 2019 range and for good reason, too. A combination of Srixon's Cup Face and Crown Step produce a powerful club that offers consistent distance across the face. So, let’s get you booked in for a custom fitting with a member of the team and harness your potential with the most overlooked club in the bag. |
