Gapping... The season may be underway but it's still early days so any last minute preparations will still be pivotal and knowing how far you hit your clubs couldn't be more important. How many times have you mis-clubbed on some of the trickier greens at R&CPGC, come up short on the likes of the 15th where the danger lurks at the front of the green? The indecision of club selection can have a drastic effect on performance, the tendency is to either swing the club a little faster or try to guide the ball to the hole. Either way, good results will be few and far between. |
The most common thing we see when doing a gapping session is that players overestimate what distances their clubs go simply because they're accounting for run out as well. A gapping session is all about carry distance because that's going to stay constant from course to course whereas run out will vary from a firm, dry links course to a softer inland parkland course. Neil Butcher saw the light this week and had a gapping session ready for the season. Such is the nature of the session, Neil was astounded to find his irons go a whole club further than what he actually plays for! It's not often players underestimate their own ability but at least now Neil will be confident he's got the right club in his hand. If you think your game will benefit from a little extra knowledge, then come into the ProShop to book a slot with either Rob or myself. Contact us here to book a gapping session.

Darnley Challenge Cup After the busy Easter weekend where the sun was shining, shirt sleeves were out and over 300 golfers were striding the fairways, the competitions didn't ease off as this weekend we had the Darnley Challenge Cup. However, the fine weather seemed to have disappeared, instead we went back to cold wintery gusts and the scoring reflected it. Out of 148 players only 4 of them managed to shoot under their handicap! The best of those was Peter Hewlett who knocked in a very impressive 40 points. Dust the dinner jacket off Peter because you're off to the presentation evening! Not only did Peter get his name in gold leaf, he also got a massive cut and has become a category one golfer. Well Done Peter!
Pro-Am If you haven't already then make sure you keep Thursday 27th June free in your diary for the flagship event of the year...the Pro-Am. Kent Foursomes The Kent Foursomes Team kicked off their campaign last weekend with a home tie against Tudor Park. A very tough format where there's only two matches of alternate shots which are played to a conclusion as both match results are combined to give a final result. Captain Mike Bush, gives his evaluation of the match... 'Our first round of this year’s knockout was a home tie played last Sunday against Tudor Park. For the Cobham team we had a very strong side comprising Damien Turner, Nick Panting, Mike Puddy and Ricky Hall. Mike and Ricky went out first and won their match 2up. Damien and Nick had an even better result winning their match 8up. A brilliant start to the campaign for us. We now have one of the toughest draws left in the knockout, an away tie against Mid Kent GC.'

Be honest, how much thought do you put into the golf ball that you play? Probably not as much you do your clubs but considering the ball is in play on every single shot, using any old thing that you find at the bottom of your bag could be leaving you paddling uphill. |
| Which Titleist ball to play? |
|
The first question to ask is: What do you want from your ball? Obviously, getting the thing in the hole in as few shots as possible is the ultimate goal, but there are many paths to getting there. There are balls that offer impressive distance, such as the Titleist Velocity, whilst others that provide incredible feel, such as DT TruSoft. But if you are looking for total performance without sacrificing on any one element, Titleist's Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX balls are truly phenomenal. With subtle differences between each, this is where having a chat with a member of our PGA qualified team will have you leaving with the best ball for your game - what will yours be? |
