Blue Tee Ryder Cup This time last year we were getting ready for a BRAND NEW blue tee event but due to snowfall, we had to abandon it; the Blue Tee Ryder Cup. So in the wake of Europe's crushing victory over team USA in Paris, we're going to rekindle our blue tee event. On Sunday 25th November, a team composed by the ProShop of our Professional attachments past & present, will go up against an R&CPGC members team compiled by resident drum beater Terry Watts. We will be playing all 3 Ryder Cup formats in 1 round of 18 holes; 6 holes of fourball betterball, 6 holes of foursomes & 6 holes of singles matchplay where the winning team will take home the coveted Blue Tee Ryder Cup trophy. As some of you may be aware, R&CPGC Professional member Ricki Neil-Jones has fallen ill recently and so to show our support to a ProShop friend we are going to donate a sizable portion of the entry fee to Ricki & his family. If you would like to take part in this fun event for a stand up R&CPGC member then let us know in the ProShop or speak to Terry Watts directly.

Monthly Medal and Stewards Bowl On Saturday we had 118 brave R&CPGC souls take to the course in what proved to be a day perfect for ducks. The early morning boys certainly got the best of the weather, Bob Tucker was in the first group and managed to sit atop of the leaderboard. Bob knocked it round in a superb nett 67, gross 73; a round which consisted of 14 pars, 4 bogies and 2 birdies. Although Bob missed the deluge of rain, he did start his round in thick fog meaning he had to trust his game and it worked wonders! However Bob's efforts were only good enough for him to win Division 1 but not overall. This is because Lee Hobbs, who encountered and conquered the deluge, also shot a nett 67 but because of his magical back nine of nett 33, he claimed a victory on count back and sealing his seat at the presentation dinner!

Bonus Ball Last week's lucky winner was Joe Hughes with number 5, picking up a pair of FootJoy golf shoes. This week's sheet is underway so be sure to get your lucky number just like Joe. |
Do you need new spikes? Winter brings with it rain, which makes the ground beneath your feet softer and more slippery. If your spikes are worn or even missing, keeping a stable base during your swing will be much harder and you'll be more prone to slipping. To avoid destructive shots like these, come in-store and take advantage of our Shoe MOT promotion, where you can get new spikes fitted for half price! |

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take Srixon for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its 'revolutionary' W-506 driver way back in 2006. A 450cc clubhead, no adjustability and a titanium construction meant the W-506 was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle. Fast-forward to the present day and Srixon has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of Z 785. Its lightweight carbon crown is far more forgiving than the W-506's titanium equivalent, and the Quick Tune system on the Z 785 means you can adjust the club to your individual swing, giving you straighter, longer drives off the tee. So, whilst it's nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the Z 785. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the Z 785 with as much fondness as the W-506! |
