The Open Championship Wow, what an amazing Open Championship that was! The world's top 2 missing the cut, Justin Rose holing an 8 footer to make the cut then following it up with a record equalling third round and the GOAT got us all excited he when rolled back the years to not only be in contention but to be leading. Sadly, the fairy tale couldn't be completed for Tiger but his playing partner's fairy tale was, when Francesco Molinari became Italy's first major champion!

Best Putter In The Club On Saturday, during the Lifeboat Spoon, Rob was on the practice putting green in search for this year's Best Putter In The Club. He had a long curly putt from the top of the putting green, downhill over the hump to a pin just a couple of feet from the fringe.
The winner would be the one who's golf ball finished closest to the pin with a couple of exceptions; the ball wasn't allowed to touch the flag & it had to finish on the green.
For a long while nobody could get the ball any closer than approximately 4 feet and then slowly the winning margin was getting smaller and smaller. That was until Graham West stepped up and made, what proved to be, the decisive putt. He only needed 2 attempts, the first was a marker and the second was expertly navigated to 10" away from the flag. The R&CPGC faithful tried their hardest all afternoon but nobody could beat the target set by Graham and so he now has the title Best Putter In The Club for a whole year!

Sweepstake All the excitement at Carnoustie with the lead swapping hands, players seemingly out of the running & then firing in a low score the following day meant the sweepstake was getting shaken up at every turn. Over the 4 days the top 5 places shuffled round several times and not just amongst the same teams! Once the dust had settled and Francesco had lifted the Claret Jug we had found our winner. With a team comprising Francesco Molinari (1st), Tony Finau (T9th), Thorbjorn Olesen (T12th) & Chris Wood (T28th), John Pickering is our Open Championship Sweepstake winner giving his ProShop account a very healthy boost!
Discount Balloons You may have seen blue & white balloons spread around the ProShop last weekend, each was filled with discounts of up to 50%. The R&CPGC faithful dived into some retail therapy this weekend in order to make some fantastic savings. The best of the savers was Peter Hynes who treated himself to a brand new Motocaddy electric trolley. His balloon popping skills saved him 20% AND because he is a Loyalty member he saved a further 10% as well! It doesn't stop there because Peter also gets a FREE golf bag as part of Motocaddy's promotion which is currently running. No a bad weekend for Peter!

Lifeboat Spoon On Saturday we had a whopping 155 players taking part in the Lifeboat Spoon on yet another warm, dry day with very little wind...another great day to post a good score. The R&CPGC faithful had a field day with their points tally, we had a whole bunch with 37 points, a handful at 38 points and 1 lone ranger on 40 points. That lone ranger was also the same person who expertly navigated his ball to become The Best Putter In the Club...Graham West. Graham has been working with Rob over the past couple of months with that target of getting into single figure handicap. After his whopping 40 points his handicap got slashed from 11.4 to 10.2...just another 0.8 to go!

Perman Shield On Sunday, the scratch team travelled to Chislehurst GC for the semi - final of the Perman Shield where the winner would take on either Sundridge Park GC or West Kent GC in the final which is to be held at Mid Kent GC. R&CPGC fielded a very strong side with a total handicap amongst 8 players was -5!! The strength of the team showed in the morning foursomes when R&CPGC took a 3 1/2 - 1/2 lead! The dominance in the singles continued with R&CPGC taking 7 out of the 8 matches and that lose was to the 2018 Kent Amateur champion, nothing to be ashamed of! The R&CPGC wins were mostly convincing with the biggest win coming from Damien Turner who obliterated his opponent by 9&7...he clearly wanted to get in to watch the final round of The Open! Well done boys, onto the final! you can find the full match result here.

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on. |
Consider the danger You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number. | |
|
Know your numbers Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries. If you’re looking to add more distance and control to your game, come and test the Cleveland Launcher HB driver, fairway and hybrid. If you have a fitting we can hit all three in a range of different specifications until we find your ideal set-up for the course. |
