Foundation Cup
This week saw the men's annual assault on the Bogey format, a game where competitors take the course on at match play.
Of the early starters, Bob Davidson was the one to throw down the gauntlet. His well-judged front nine reached the turn one to the good, but a three hole blitz through 13, 14 & 15 saw him finish +3. It's nice to see that new TaylorMade Jetspeed 5 wood is doing its job Bob! Among those 'having a go', were Neil Anderson, stood on the 17th tee at +4, but finishing with +2 and Martyn O'Donnell, with a highly commendable +1.
It was nearly 2 o'clock before Bob's mark was bettered, with Tommy Joyce making nett birdie up 18 to post +4. As time was running out, a valiant John Garner needed to make 4 up the last to snatch a late victory, but fate dealt him a 6 and left him on +2. No more late challenges came and the day belonged to Tommy, seen here, checking to see if he's made the golfing press!
Left v Right Handers
All other competition is cancelled this weekend to make way for the biggest event in the calendar; it's the epic annual battle between Left and Right. This year sees the brash and bold rabble, assembled by John Ribbins, aiming to dismantle the, as ever, mild mannered and humble group of lefties cobbled together by the Shop's own Keith Pearce.
A persecuted minority in the world of golf are the lefties, once cast to be forever scratching around boot fairs and second-hand shops on the lookout for that rarest of breeds, the left handed golf club. Fear not though fellas, times have changed, the Pro Shop can now pander to your every whim.
Whilst tickets to watch this spectacle are at a premium, all are welcome to join the post-match social in the lounge.
FootJoy Fitting Day
This Saturday is the day FootJoy’s James Monk is coming to the club. At first glance I was a touch sceptical about the value of this service, but the more I’ve looked at it, the more I’m sold on the idea. Most people have two feet, not many of us have two the same size and this causes issues with comfort and uneven wear. For the golfer though it can also translate into reduced performance, the feet being our anchor points and a solid base being fundamental to the generation of power in the golf swing.
Optimising performance is at the top of every PGA Pro’s hotlist. So it makes sense that your shoes, like your clubs, will benefit from being FITTED. Considering your feet/shoes are the only contact with terra firma, stability is a premium requirement to initiate a powerful and controlled swing. This is a fantastic chance to see whether you could be giving away performance before you even begin to take the club away.
All very well you may say for those looking to maximise performance, but what about the average club golfer? Well don’t our feet deserve to be cared for? After all, they have to support most of us to the grave.
You may not be aware, but FootJoy have for years had the MyJoy shoe in their range. MyJoys are custom made to order, so not only can each shoe be a different size, but you, the customer, can design your own shoe from an extensive range of options. According to FootJoy there are almost 5 million possible variations, so no one at the club is likely to have a pair like yours.
There are still a few fitting slots available and it’s an opportunity unlikely to come our way again in the near future. If you can find time to join us for this, I’m sure you’ll come to think of it as 20 minutes well spent.
The new PING G30's have arrived with a BANG! and impressed everyone that has tried them. We now have our own demo clubs in the Pro shop for you to try.
That's not so important you may think, but how about this! Our prices are the cheapest we've been able to find in the UK. That's not a challenge, just a statement of fact.
Whilst it's nice to be able to make that statement, there are other points to consider. It may not always be possible for us to be the cheapest on every item we stock; there are occasions when we can't buy a product for the price someone else is selling at. We will however always price things as competitively as we can. That's not all we offer though, unlike the internet we offer the personal service a computer never can. Whether it's advice about the products we stock, or aftersales service in the event of a warranty issue, we are there for you and will always do our best for you. That's not even making mention of our warm smile and friendly banter.
What?!!
One Space only remaining for Saturday's PING Demo Day.

Club forum
Monday 15th September is one for the diary. That's the date of the upcoming Club Forum, where members and board take time out to exchange views and discuss ideas and concerns. If you have a view on something you'd like to share with the club, this is the place to give it air.
EuroPro Tour came close to home this week, with the the World Poker Tour (WPT) Invitational arriving at Prince's Golf Club. Sadly the local air wasn't to Jack Colegate's liking as he suffered a rare missed cut. The Channel breeze did however suit Lloyd Campbell, as he put in a solid performance to claim 53rd and £185.
It's off to the PDC and World Snooker Open at The Oxfordshire Resort this week for Jack www.europrotour.com; whilst Matt Haines, after a week off, is heading to Galgorm Castle in Ballymena for the Northern Ireland Open Challenge.
