Brice Bowl There was no time to sit back and relax after the Kent Amateur Championship because just a few days later we had 62 players competing over 36 holes for the Brice Bowl, a scratch prize, as well as a nett prize. Conditions were tough for the morning and the scores reflected it as the best gross score was just a one under par 70 from Max Jordan of Langley Park GC. The rough was punishing, there was a cross wind and the greens were catching everybody out. The players were in for a tough afternoon. However, things improved in the afternoon round with the best score coming from R&CPGC boy, Nick Panting, who returned a cracking six under par, 65. First round leader, Max Jordan, could only manage a one over par, 72 which meant Nick & Max were tied at the top and so a playoff was required! The guys had to play a four hole playoff with 4, 9, 17 & 18 the selected holes, both guys managed to par all four of the holes which then meant a trip back to the 4th tee where a sudden death playoff followed...very tense stuff! Two pars meant that they had to walk back to the 4th tee, it was beginning to feel like groundhog day! The deadlock had been broken after Max could only manage yet another par, Nick took the bull by the horns and held his nerve to roll in his birdie putt to claim victory! Nick had to delay going to work for the playoff but it was all worth it in the end, well played!

| Back to the night job, Nick! |
| Two solid rounds left Ryan Godwin runner up in the nett division.

Out on tour This week there were three of the Professional contingency in action, two on the Jamega Tour & one on the Europro Tour. On the Jamega Tour this week was Freddie Price & Alfie Plant at Essendon Country Club, in Hatfield. Not the finest week for Freddie with rounds of 78 & 73 leaving him 7 over par for the tournament but he will grind this week ready for his next outing. Alfie had a very solid week with two rounds of 69 totalling 6 under par leaving him in a tie for 3rd place, 5 shots behind Jamie Abbott who claimed top spot on 11 under par. Jack Colegate is playing on the Europro as we write this in the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters at Montrose Golf Links on the East coast of Scotland. After opening with a 1 over par first round, Jack needed to improve in round 2 to make the cut which was looking like being 1 under par. We've got our fingers crossed for you Jack!

[* END *] We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the key to unlocking lower scores lies in improving your short game. Having the correct technique is one part of the journey to achieving this. The other is making sure your wedges are the correct grind and bounce for your swing, as well as having a set of wedges that are evenly gapped to cater for any distance. |

50% of you are like the first graphic If you’re working hard to get your handicap down, it really will pay off to dedicate more of your practice time to your short game and the shots you need to improve in the scoring zone. As you can see with the graphics above, the wrong wedge set-up can lead to an awkward 35-yard gap and more difficult half shots, which is why we always recommend a gapping session or fitting.
With Callaway you have plenty of options, including this popular Mack Daddy 4 wedge, which comes in nine different lofts between 46° and 64°. It means whether you’re looking for a two, three or four wedge system in your bag, we can get your yardages gapped perfectly. |
