Kent Amateur Championship Last weekend R&CPGC were fortunate enough to host the Kent Amateur Championship, a fantastic honour giving us to showcase what a fabulous golf course we have. On Friday there were 60 golfers from across Kent playing for on of the 16 spots in the knockout stage on Saturday, R&CPGC had 9 representatives all hoping to be involved over the weekend. After some superb golf being played, the top 16 was decided and 3 of the R&CPGC boys made it through which were Nick Panting, George Crow & Mike Puddy. All 3 guys were in action on Saturday morning, however, Nick was the only one to make it through to the afternoon round after a 1up victory.

Things weren't to go Nick's way however as he lost out to former professional & Open Championship player Tom Sherreard. The final 4 of Tom Sherreard, Taron Donovan, Josh Bristow & Liam Burns were to tee up again on Sunday morning fighting for one last afternoon round in the afternoon. After 2 fast paced semi-finals, the final competitors were decided! Liam Burns managed a a convinving 3&2 victory and Tom Sherreard claimed a 1up victory...we now had the last 2 men standing.

A well earned break and a bite to eat and the guys were ready to go to war with both their fan bases supporting from the side line amongst some of the R&CPGC faithful who came out to watch the big match. Liam stormed into a 3up lead and never really looked like being pegged back, he used all his experience to close out the match 3&2 and become Kent Amateur Champion 2018. |

Tour News
A couple of the R&CPGC professional contingent were in action this week on the Jamega Tour at The Shire Golf Club in Barnet, a quirky golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros which has 6 par 3's, 6 par 4's & 6 par 5's. Taking this one on was Freddie Price & Michael Saunders who finished tied 21st & tied 32nd respectively. Freddie's rounds of 74 &71 left him on 1 over par for the tournament and Michael's rounds of 71 & 76 left him on 3 over par for the tournament with the winning mark being 6 under par from Jamie Abbott. Alfie Plant was also in action this week at the US Open qualifying at Walton Heath Golf Club, the same venue where he put his name on the map and won the European Amateur Championship but could he carry on the love affair where he's already had so much success? There were a whole host of household names from the European Tour and some where you were scratching your head in amazement that they weren't already in the field. Nonetheless there were 14 spots up for grabs and reputations meant nothing. After a steady opening round of level par, Alfie stepped it up gear and got to 5 under par with 4 holes to go and right on the cut line and so to secure his position 1 birdie was required. Unfortunately the fairy tale wasn't to be as he made 2 bogies to miss out on the playoff by 2 strokes. He can take lots of positives into his next event, including finishing higher than Ryder Cup players Lee Westwood, Stephen Gallagher, Edoardo Molinari and plenty of other top European Tour players. |

We’re sure the majority of you will agree that having a distance device on the course is a huge benefit, going hand-in-hand with knowing how far you hit each club. For those of you in the market for a laser rangefinder or GPS device, here are a few options within Garmin’s range to suit different preferences. |
Pinpoint laser accuracy There's one standout feature to Garmin's Z80 laser rangefinder that sets it apart from all others on the market. As well as giving precise distances up to 350 yards away, the Z80 also includes hole maps that are integrated into the viewfinder, which display the shape of the hole and provide front and back distances when you lock on to the flag. |
|
Information at a glance If you prefer wearable technology, Garmin has both GPS watches and bands to suit all styles. The Approach S60 watch, seen here on the left, boasts colour hole maps, hazard information and offers front, middle and back yardages. The other, the Approach X40 band, is a slim, lightweight and waterproof wristband that gives you distances to the green and to hazards, as well as heart rate and activity tracking. |
