Party in the Park
Months in the planning and ready to go, eyes were focused on the weather forecast early Saturday morning. A cooling breeze was in the offing, but as one might expect, the righteous were to be bathed in sunshine!
A great crowd assembled and weren’t to be disappointed as first Mandy Ellis’ husband, Keith, set the mood with his band Cheap Alternative; then Mick Jagger’s love child took to the stage with Not The Rolling Stones, they were a fantastic turn and really rocked the Park ‘til dawn. Well, as late as folk’s knees could take it.
It was a cracking evening and certainly a date to put in the diary for next year.
This event offers something for all the family, throughout the afternoon and evening everyone is catered for. It’s just a perfect way to spend a summer’s day.
Challenge Match
Saturday also witnessed a long awaited challenge match between the oiks of the stud bar and the wholly more sophisticate red wine drinkers that populate the lounge. No doubt the gentlemanly attributes of the discerning grape quaffers were a contributing factor to the 5 ½ - 2 ½ drubbing they received. That and the fact ‘Party in the Park’ closed the driving range for the day and their extensive practice and warm up routines were interrupted.
On a serious note, full marks to Terry Heaver and Bob Dench for their efforts organising this, it’s great to see folk getting to know one another.
August 30th Fitting Day
Spaces for the PING G30 demo and fitting day are nearly all taken. As I write there are three slots still available between 11:20 am and 12:40 pm. First come first served!
Alongside the G30 stock we have in the shop, we have now taken delivery of our G30 Demo Drivers. Feel free to call in and take these on the range or the course, they really are worth the time.
There are also half a dozen spaces up for grabs with the FootJoy Shoe Fitting Expert. These range between 10:20 am and 2:40 pm. This is a rare opportunity to have your feet measured by someone that knows everything there is to know about the relationship between feet and golf shoes. Correctly fitting shoes not only mean an end to aching feet, they can actually add distance to your game.
Golf Ball Promotion
Still our generosity rolls on!
Already discounted to £22.99 per dozen for the duration of this promotion, there’s more money to be saved. If you buy 3 dozen balls at the discounted price, we will GIVE you the fourth dozen absolutely FREE!
Still more!! Sleeves of AD333 are discounted to £6.95. Buy three sleeves and again we’ll GIVE the fourth sleeve absolutely FREE, that works out to just £20.85 per dozen. We don’t seem to learn from our mistakes.
This offer runs until 30th September when we revert to our already very favourable prices.
Course Maintenance
Just a reminder, on the 26th - 27th - 28th August, Barry and the team will be carrying out essential maintenance to the greens. Hollow coring, micro coring and dressing will always seem an inconvenience at the time, but we reap the benefit for the rest of the year.
Club Captain's Charity Day
Maggie and Steve brought their combined efforts to bear on this year’s Captains Charity Day.
One hundred and twenty eight golfers, in teams of four, teed it up in glorious sunshine, in aid of EllenorLions Hospices and raised the fantastic sum of over £5,500! The overall winners were David & Sally Ferrers, Sue Batchelor & John Beslee with a score of 116 points. Many, many thanks go to all those people who gave their time so freely to ensure the smooth running of this event.
The day marked the end of an era, as Paul Mitchell succumbed to Mrs Mitchell’s will and outbid the rest of the field at auction to secure ownership of his first electric trolley. Well played Sue and all her willing helpers (it was a stitch up!).
