You have nothing to fear

Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. If you have not yet updated your details, please do so now. It will take you less than a minute.

Masters review

Reed all about it...

Another white knuckle ride at Augusta goes by for another year and what a treat it was! After a couple of dormant opening rounds, the action kicked into life on Saturday with putts rolling in from everywhere setting up a Sunday shootout with 54 hole leader Patrick Reed and his closest competitor Rory McIlroy. The usual action packed back 9 on Sunday afternoon ensued which saw Patrick Reed shoot a final round 71 to grind out what would be a first major win and see him slip on the converted green jacket.

Masters Sweepstake

Other than Patrick Reed benefiting this weekend, Roger Robinson also profited after carefully studying the form and composing what he thought, and subsequently was, the strongest combination of 4 players.

With the combination of Justin Rose, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson and Patrick Reed, it gave his ProShop account a healthy boost of £600! Others successful team entries were:

Thanks to all the 230 team entries that took part in this year Sweepstake and commiserations if you weren't lucky enough to collect prize. A big thanks also goes to Chris Holt and Alan Young who behind the scenes take care of producing and publishing the results, which is no easy task considering this was our biggest sweepstake on record, growing from 65 teams in 2007 when I first took over to well over 200, 11 years later, good jobs guys!

Monthly Medal

Masters fever hit R&CPGC over the weekend with 149 players entering the Monthly Medal on what was the warmest day of the year so far! Dare I tempt fate and say summer is on the way? Here's how they got on...

Claiming top spot in division 2 was Steve Diprose with a masterfully crafted nett 68, giving his handicap a cut & Pro Shop account a boost. He was, however, piped to an overall win on countback due to Ricky Hall's 2 under par gross back 9.

Ricky has been in a rich vein of form in the last month going from a 5 handicap, to being on the cusp of a 3 handicap. Ricky's aim is to get down low enough to enter the Kent Amateur Championship which R&CPGC will be hosting on Thursday 1st June - Sunday 3rd June.

If he carries on this form, he will have no worries about qualifying and what's to say he can't give some of Kent's big guns a run for their money round his home course!

Fitting news

Callaway Fitting Day

As you may be aware, due to the poor weather, we had to postpone the Callaway Fitting Day on Saturday 17th March. Now the bad weather has finally disappeared (hopefully), we have re-arranged it for the 14th May between times TBC and each fitting slot is 30 minutes long.

Likewise, you are also more than welcome to pop along and try the clubs at your own leisure but please note a fitting cannot be guaranteed. If you would like to reserve a slot with our Callaway expert, Alex Hunter, then please let us know in the ProShop. Alternatively if this date doesn't suit then please book a custom fit with either myself or Rob.

Coaching news

Junior Coaching

Over the past few weeks, Rob & myself have been working closely with Junior Organiser Kurt Dennison & Robin Packer to embark upon rebuilding R&CPGC's junior section. After seeing so many good players, such as Matt Haines, Alfie Plant & many more come through the ranks at R&CPGC, it is sad to see it has diminished in recent times.

So along with the junior camps Rob had last week & future ones, Kurt & Robin have been contacting local schools offering a FREE taster sessions in an effort to find the next batch of superstars.

The first to take this offer was St. Joseph's Primary School where they bought along 10 of their year 4 class. Rob took them to the driving range for a fun mini game which allowed them to score their progress before giving them some hints and tips to practice. After the practice time, they kids had another go at the mini game and I'm pleased to say that everybody improved on their first score!

The PE teachers were so impressed that they would like to add golf to the curriculum for next term, fingers crossed we have a diamond in the rough there! We are also waiting for Cobham Hall & Gad's Hill to respond about organising their taster session too, so hopefully we can get the junior section thriving once again!
