Cobham Week 2014
This year has seen a new Event added to the calendar with the Men’s Open, reported on in last week’s newsletter, filling the Sunday slot. The week has also seen Open competitions hosted by the Vet’s, Ladies and Mixed sections, which have all been incredibly well supported. The biggest event was the Vets Open, which this year had a field of 40+ teams of 4!
In all we have entertained 758 golfers from 93 different golf clubs. People have visited from as far afield as Dewsbury in Yorkshire, Surbiton and Southampton.
VETS OPEN
Dennis does it again! Following his success in the St Andrews Trophy only a few weeks ago, Dennis Fordham claimed a second team victory in last week’s Vets Open, much to the disappointment of Martin Pegg who lost out narrowly on a count back. Martin had posted the target to beat early on in the day and had thought he’d held off the competition until Dennis, in the final group on the day, came in to squeeze him out on count back.
So Dennis you can’t deny those new TaylorMade SLDR woods have made the difference!
MIXED OPEN
A great job John, our esteemed leader, was back in action and in the winner’s circle again! This time accompanied by team mates from Sundridge Park - Patrick Owen, Pam Owen and Jayne Skynner, they fired in 84 points and a 4 point victory. A great job, but can you win without the help of your friends?
LADIES OPEN
54 competitors teed it up in the Ladies 2014 R&C Team Open this year. Results are as follows:
- Pat Whitty, Sharon Henderson and Sally Pullin (Hever Castle) 84 points
- Ray Grint, Annie Idle, Liz Nokes (Redlibbets) 78 points on c/b
- Alison Beck, Lizza Berry, Sue Luke (Canterbury) 78 points
Nearest the Line (5th hole): Joan Murphy (Upchurch)
Nearest the Pin (16th): Nancy Caldwell (Kingshill)
2’s: Jan Kidd (Redlibbets)
Bursary Day
On Saturday 12th July 27 teams took to the course for the annual Bursary Day/Yellow Ball competition. The competition is in aid of our Young Golfers Development Fund, which helps support our up and coming stars of the future, and this year we raised £510 which is fantastic, thank you for all your generous support!
There were two prizes up for grabs on the day. The first is for the aggregate winners, which is the team with the best two stableford scores on each hole, but the catch is that one of those scores has to be with the Yellow ball. The second prize is for the team that returned the best Yellow ball total of the day. The results are as follows:
Aggregate Winners: Captain Steve Howard, John Ribbins, Denis Lloyd & Jenny Walker 88 points
Yellow Ball Winners: Howard Comber, Will Mather, Bob Wiles & Denis Stally 40 points after c/b
Both teams win a complimentary four ball (with bacon butties) at Faversham Golf Club.
FootJoy Shoe Fitting Day
August will see us having a visit from a FootJoy shoe fitting expert. New research from FootJoy has found you could lose out on comfort as well as power with an ill-fitting pair of shoes. And the research has also proven over 75% of golfers are wearing the wrong sized shoe!
Don't miss out on the opportunity to have your feet measured by a professional.
Watch this space for details on how to reserve your 20 minute appointment.
PING Demo Day
See how Bubba-long, just got Bubba-longer
Following the announcement of their exciting new G30 range, PING will be showcasing the new product in a special launch event at R&CPGC on Saturday 30th August.
"Crown turbulators in the 460cc head help generate greater clubhead speed and ball velocity for consistently longer drives that find the fairway. The new T9S face material is strong, lightweight and thin, optimizing face deflection for even higher ball speeds and longer drives. With Trajectory Tuning+ Technology, you can fine-tune launch conditions using five settings and 2 full degrees of loft adjustability."
Don't take our word for it listen to what 'Bubba' has to say. A must watch video, even if the wind tunnel demo doesn't impress you, listening to Bubba will certainly make you smile… It brightened up my morning!

A tough week for Jack last week as the front nine holes caused him too much trouble on each day, causing him to miss the cut.
