Monthly Medal & Royal Engineers Cup

After the heavy downpour from the night before, the course on Saturday was ready for the 112 R&CPGC faithful to try and become the Monthly Medal & Royal Engineers Cup champion 2017. Here's how they did...

The best from Division 1 was Steve Nunney who knocked it round in a superb 68 which playing off 4 handicap meant he had a gross 72, the lowest of the day. Steve got off to a flying start with a gross 1 under par front 9, he quickly got it to 2 under par after a birdie on the 10th but 3 bogies coming in meant he finished 1 over par. A very solid round of golf which rewarded him with a cut to his handicap and a boost to his ProShop account.

The main prize however went to the Division 2 winner, Paul Smith. Paul's round also got off to a cracker with a 2 under handicap front 9 which consisted of 6 pars and 3 double bogies. Paul was again 2 under his handicap for the back 9 which gave him a total of 4 under his handicap.

Paul's prize was not only his name going down in the history books but his ProShop account is looking healthier and his handicap got a slashing as well, with a little helping hand from an exceptional scoring reduction. Well done Paul, we'll see you at the Prize Giving Dinner.

Left vs. Right Handers

Right at the end of August we had one of the grudge matches to end all grudge matches, this one was far superior to Europe vs. USA, Celtic vs. Rangers and cat vs. dog put together. This was Lefties vs. Righties. Captain Terry Heaver had over 400 right handers to compile a 10 man team from whilst Keith Pearce had a mere 16 to choose from. Could David conquer Goliath once more?

The 2 Captains and their partners went head to head in the first match to lead their respective teams by example. Coming out on top by a very convincing margin of 5&4 was the Righties combination of Terry Heaver & Dave Ballard. However this could only inspire Ross Freeman & Tony Evans to yet another convincing victory, this time by 6&5. The Lefties must have felt they needed to put a shift in if they were to be led by Keith Pearce if they were to claim victory.

That's exactly what they did by claiming the 3 middle matches and securing a 3-2 win in the process. Terry may have had a vast pool of players to choose from but Keith had only pure class to choose from and he got the mixture just right!

The R&CPGC faithful trampled over each other to make sure they were in this week's Bonus Ball and the lucky one who is sitting atop of them all is Gary Carter. His pick of number 8 has fetched him a rather dashing Oscar Jacobson shirt and vest combination. Gary will be strutting down the fairway as if it's a Milan catwalk from now on!
