Club Championship

Last weekend was the biggest competition of the year for the R&CPGC faithful, the Winch Gold & Club Scratch Medal. On Saturday we had 128 players all vying to make the cut for Sunday, but only the top 48 would progress. Here's what happened:

The best nett score of the day and leading the race for the Winch Gold Medal was from Dave Link who fired a superb 66 playing off 6 handicap; a gross 1 over par which put him in touch with the leaders in the Club Scratch Medal too. Dave's round was made up of a level par front 9 and a 1 over par back 9.

A very solid first round, but could Dave produce the goods in the second round?

Leading the Club Scratch Medal was George Crow who had a blistering 67, 4 under par! George's round didn't get off to the best start with a bogey down the first hole but such is his skill, George managed to recover and reach the turn at 3 under par. Two more birdies and a bogey gave him a back 9 of 1 under par, giving him a 2 stroke lead over Mike Bush.

The stage was set for the next day but how well could Dave and George cope with leading their respective Medals?

Play got underway on Sunday and the chasing pack were after Dave and George. Dave couldn't quite re-create his form from the previous day and returned with a nett 75 meaning he would finish in 6th place. George managed to follow up his opening round with a great score and yet again did all the work on the front 9, 2 under par for his round. A steady back 9 level par gave him a score of 69 and total of 136 for the tournament.

His fine golf not only secured him the Club Scratch Medal but he also walked away with the Winch Gold Medal too! Not only has George cleaned up the silverware but his Pro Shop account is looking rather healthy and his handicap took a slash to +1.

Well done George, I'm sure the celebrations will go on for a while!

New in the Pro Shop

We've got yet another new arrival in the Pro Shop in the form of BIG MAX push trolleys, so we've taken a closer look at them to see what makes them so good.

The best feature about the Blade Quattro is how little space it takes up, making it perfect for those who don't have a lot of boot space or often find it is loaded up with 2 lots of clubs and trolleys.

With just 1 simple movement the trolley folds down to just 18cm in height, not even the length of a grip! With such a fantastic design you'd expect the trolley to weigh a tonne but it's a mere 6.5kg, weighing less than most cart bags!

The Blade Quattro has also been designed to withstand steep hills as it has four wheels giving you better stability and full confidence that your clubs won’t be making a run for it while you're hitting your shot. Just to put your mind at ease, there is also a foot brake so you will have to find another excuse for the wayward shot!
