Monthly Medal & Centenary Bowl

Last Sunday we had the Monthly Medal & Centenary Bowl where 104 R&CPGC members went head to head on a day where conditions were rather calm; the sun was shining and the winds were just a small breeze. Here's how they got on...

There were lots of great scores, in fact there were 17 players under their handicap and one of the best was from Division 2 where James Cross knocked in a superb 66 playing off 17. James' round consisted of two 9's of 33, very consistent! Not only has his ProShop account taken a boost his handicap has gone the other way with a whopping 2 shot cut, well done James!

The winner however, came from Division 1 where John Tutt playing off 9 fired a scintillating 62, for those of you sitting there doing maths you are correct he did knock it round in gross level par!

A very steady opening 9 of gross 39 was followed by an outstanding 32 on the back 9 which was made up of 3 birdies and 6 pars!

Some very impressive form from John which has also rewarded him with some funds for the ProShop, although I don't think he was too impressed with the 2 shot cut to his handicap!

I'm sure John will embrace his new handicap and fire in some more great scores, well done John!

New In The ProShop

The latest addition to the ProShop this week is the Callaway XR Steelhead fairway woods, name and a design you may recognise from years gone by but it's had a paint job and an upgrade on technology, here's what Callaway have done...

Callaway have tweaked the iconic head shape slightly that made it's predecessor so popular all those years ago. They have also refined the Hawkeye Sole making the club far more versatile and far easier to launch which will only build your confidence over the ball.

This is where the 2017 model takes over from the old school with the Hyper Speed Face Cup. This exceptional technology allows for faster ball speeds giving you maximum distance, this works especially well on the mishits.

Callaway have used a lightweight carbon crown to free up weight which has been repositioned for maximum forgiveness, easier launch and lower spin which combined gives a powerful shot. The short hosel frees up even more weight and also has an appealing look too.

Callaway got a helping hand from aerospace experts to design a clubhead which has better aerodynamics to improve swing speed meaning faster ball speeds resulting in the ultimate goal...more distance!

The Steelhead XR comes with the Mitsubishi Tensei CK shaft as stock, a brilliant which has been engineered for the optimum balance between power and control.

There are a wide variety of lofts available from 3 wood right the way through to 9 wood and even the old school Heavenwood is available. There is also a 3+ & 4+ wood option which has a flatter lie and more compact head to appeal to the better player.

Last Saturday saw Terry & myself challenged by yet another pair of R&CPGC members in the shape of Mark Rackham & Nick Whitebread, they clearly felt confident they could turn us over...sporting genius or just plain delusional?

As you may be aware Terry's body is starting to resemble a clapped out Austin Allegro but the the rust seemed to hold the nuts and bolts together this week as he played rather well! As a pair we dovetailed really well once again managing to see off our opponents by a 3&1 victory.

Mark and Nick clearly thought they saw a weakness with our frail bodies yielding a defeat in a recent outing but order was once again restored!

Summer junior coaching

Attention all parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles! Now that the kids have broken up for the summer holidays they will undoubtedly be looking for something to keep themselves entertained.

Well Rob may well have the answer because on 4 consecutive Thursdays he will be putting on some junior coaching where the kids will learn all aspects of the game from long game to chipping and putting.

Each session will be an hour long which will packed with information delivered in a fun and relaxed way with fun mini games based around what the kids will learn. At the end of each mini game there will be a prize up for grabs for the winner.

If you would like to reserve a space then please contact the ProShop, each session will be £15 or if you would like to reserve a place in all 4 of the sessions you can pay £50 saving £10. Please see the dates & times below...

Sock rule

Some of you eagle eyed members will have noticed we have had a fantastic increase of visitors coming to play our course which mixed with the hot weather has seen them wear shorts. However, some of them haven't worn the correct socks leading to the ProShop insisting to correct them.

We would ask for all R&CPGC members to adhere to the same rule to set an example to our visitors so that our justification to them is cemented. We would also ask that if you bring any guests that you inform them of the rule to avoid any embarrassment for you or your guests.

Please remember that if you wear shorts you must also wear white socks which are calf length; trainer socks which are not visible are not permitted.
