Captain's Prize
This weekend was all about Terry Heaver as it was his Captain's Prize with his team making a special effort with the halfway hut turning it into a pirate's paradise. Captain Terry and his band of hearty sailors were keeping all those lily livered land lovers topped up with food and drink while they did battle on the golf course.
The weather was fine on Saturday and conditions were benign, meaning there were some good scores to be had. John Grace set the pace early doors with a whopping 40 points and it took until one of the later starters to beat him. That person came in the shape of the in-form Ryan Godwin who knocked in 41 points playing off 1 meaning he was 4 under par gross!
A fantastic score which was bound to set up a thrilling encounter on Sunday as there was 12 other R&CPGC members within 3 points of Ryan. So would Ryan hold on or would one of the chasing pack emerge to snatch victory?
Conditions on Sunday were just as benign as they were on Saturday, setting up a shootout for the tightly packed bunch to go at it. The best score from Sunday was Theo Theodorou with 39 points who bagged himself a Callaway MD3 wedge.
Overnight leader Ryan Godwin couldn't rediscover his form from the previous day and could only manage 34 points. Still respectable but unfortunately Ryan came up just 1 point short. This is because the old seasoned Dean Lanning followed up his first round of 36 points with a cracking 40 points.
It was a very productive weekend for Dean winning himself a brand new electric trolley and getting his handicap slashed in the process!
Srixon Demo Day
Now the season is in full flow and the cobwebs have been blown off your golf game from winter, you may well be thinking about changing some of your artillery in the hope you can squeeze your name onto a few trophies this year.
Now's the best time to change because we have one of Srixon's finest club fitters coming to R&CPGC with a van packed full of heads and shafts culminating in thousands of combinations.
This will pose no problem for the expert though because with the help from his launch monitor he will be able to narrow that down to just a few options and from there he will be able to find which combination works best for you. All this will be done from a matter of just a few balls! You will get a chance to have a swing of the Z565 which was voted 'most wanted driver of 2017' according to MyGolfSpy as well as the matching fairway woods. A wide range of hybrids and irons will also be on tap for you to have a little dabble with.
If you would like to have a fitting with Srixon's expert then why not reserve your slot in the Pro Shop or click here to book online. Likewise, if you would just like to come along and try the clubs you can, but a fitting cannot be guaranteed.
New Callaway Epic
As you know Callaway have absolutely smashed the driver market with the Epic and the only logically step they could take was to smash the iron market as well. That's exactly what they have done with the Epic & Epic Pro irons.
Firstly Callaway have increased the average distance per iron by increasing ball speed on-centre hits but also minimising distance lost on off-centre hits, making the clubface one big sweet spot. They managed to do this by making the rim of the Face Cup 1mm at its thinnest point.
The Exo-Cage stiffens the body of the clubhead to allow the face to take on more of the load at impact, which they call energy lensing. This again promotes faster ball speeds and more distance, helping to raise the COR to the limit, a feat that Callaway have never reached in a full set.
Each individual iron has a tungsten weight strategically placed for maximum integrity and optimum performance. Incorporating tungsten in the Internal Standing Wave allowed Callaway engineers to precisely position the CG in each individual iron. The longer irons have a lower CG for easier launch and longer carry whereas the shorter irons have a higher CG for a lower, more controllable flight.
The Epic Pro Irons come with all the same features and the only difference is that the clubhead is slightly smaller, meaning a thinner top line, sole and less offset. Giving the better player all the necessary feel and workability they require.
Both irons come with a wide variety of premium shafts as stock such as the UST Mamiya Recoil ES 760/780 graphite and Project X LZ 95 steel.
We now have both heads in our fitting cart so if you want to give them a whirl you are more than welcome to try them on the range. The only problem you will have is not hitting any of the walkers at the back of the range!
