US Open Par 3 Championships
Well the second Major Championship of the year has been and gone and I'm sure the USGA were over the moon that there wasn't any controversy at this year's US Open like in the previous 2 years. The only major talking point was the length of the rough which clearly was no problem for Brooks Koepka who went on to win his maiden Major Championship by 4 shots.
However, this wasn't the main golfing event that happened this weekend, oh no, because on Friday evening we had the R&CPGC Par 3 Championships and there were some nerve jangling holes this year! My two favourites had to be from the charity 9th tee by the entrance road to the 4th green and from the right hand side of the clubhouse to the 9th green!
Once again the R&CPGC faithful turned out in their droves for what was a fun and light-hearted event, but this year one man really stole the show, John Bullock. He claimed the first prize which was nearest the pin on a hole, which was from the blue tee on the 5th to the 8th green. A mere 120 yards but predominantly over long rough, however this didn't bother John though because he stuck his to 3 feet! Don't worry John we won't tell everybody that you missed the putt...
John's fine iron play must have inspired his team too because they claimed the team prize with a whopping 52 points, a very impressive score considering it was only 2 scores to count from 4! John's Par 3 Kings were John T Martin, Phil Budden & Barry McNally.
Onto the main prize, best individual and once again John Bullock was up in front of everybody to claim the prize with a mega 23 points and in true Major Championship tradition, the defending champion passed the crown over to the winner.
Shortly after the presentation had finished,
Naz Gill turned up with everybody's fish & chips, sausage & chips, and pie & chips which clearly everybody was in need of because no sooner had we unpacked the food, it was on the tables being inhaled!
While all of this was going on we had the US
Open
playing on the big screen watching how the Professionals
dealt with the brute of a golf course Erin Hills turned out to be. A massive thank you must go to the R&CPGC members who took part this year, as fun events like this wouldn't happen without your support. If you couldn't make it this year then don't worry as it will be making a return this time next year!
Pro-AmNext week on
Thursday, 29 June we have the golfing highlight of the year at R&CPGC, the Pro-Am
. A day which never fails to disappoint for all of those that are involved, from the PGA Professionals to the amateurs which accompany them for the day.
The day starts with a meet and greet with your PGA Professional over breakfast, this is usually where the teams can devise their strategy for the day, things like who will lead off each tee to ensure a banker is down the fairway, before the adventurous one in the group tries to take on the Tiger shot.
Once the plan is in place, a quick warm up is generally in order just to get the Rolls Royce of a golf game warmed up before heading to the golf course for what is a fun relaxing day. You will get the opportunity to get hints and tips from your
PGA Professional on things like: how you can improve your game or maybe there's a club in your bag that causes you trouble and are looking to replace it. Whatever it is you want, know they will be more than happy to help!
Aside from the team competition there will also be nearest the pin on all of the par 3's
with some fantastic prizes, which in previous years has included golf bags and golf shoes
, not bad for 1 good shot! There will also be R&CPGC's very own Amen Corner where the PGA Professional with the lowest score through the 11th, 12th & 13th can win
£250, so you will really get to see how they handle the pressure!
After the golf has finished you and your team will head back into the Clubhouse for a mouth watering dinner prepared by
Jackie & Bernie before
MC Robin Packer takes to the microphone to auction off some fantastic fourball vouchers at Royal Wimbledon GC, Worthing GC & Chart Hills GC
. To round off the day we will have the main presentation where there are some great prizes up for grabs for the winning team as well as second and third place.
As a R&CPGC members' team you can be a part of all this action for
£270 just
£90 each. Or if you feel like being rather lavish why not take one of the
VIP teams where you will have a champagne breakfast in the VIP area of the Clubhouse, one of the top PGA Professionals assigned to your team, a welcome
gift
set
containing all the important items for the day & preferential parking closer to the Clubhouse. All these glorious extras will be yours for a small increase in price. If you want to be a part of this fabulous day the please

Team NewsIn the past week
R&CPGC
have had 2 teams in action, here's how they got on...
First in action was the Scratch Team on Sunday, 18 June against West Kent GC in the Summer Scratch League
, a match which consisted of four singles matches and two betterball matches. R&CPGC ran out comfortable winners by a 5 1/2 - 1/2 victory with the smallest lost still being a very comprehensive
3&2 win
. You can find the full results pictured.
The other team in action was the
Sundridge Park Trophy team against Shooters Hill GC on Monday,
19 June where a place in the semi-final was up for grabs. Unfortunately Shooters Hill GC won the first 4 matches
meaning R&CPGC would go on to lose 5-3 which would see Shooters Hill GC advance to the final four.
