Brice Bowl
Last Thursday we had the amateur flagship event of the year, the Brice Bowl. We had 57 players from all over Kent as well as a strong R&CPGC contingency battling it out to take the main scratch prize.
The course was in fantastic condition, ready and waiting for the players to do their best although the sun was shining and the temperature was good, the winds were particularly strong and so low scoring was going to require some fantastic golf.
Leading after 18 holes was R&CPGC's very own Mike Bush with a sensational 3 under par 68 taking a 2 shot lead into the final 18 holes with Ryan Godwin on his coat tails, another of the R&CPGC faithful as well as 2 visiting players; Ed Richardson & Dan Brown.
This was no foregone conclusion because the strong winds would prove to be a test for leader Mike who shot a second round 78 opening the door for the chasing pack to snatch a victory.
However the winning score didn't come from either Ryan, Ed or Dan as they returned 79, 78 & 72 respectively. R&CPGC's very own & Cuddington GC's adoptive son, Scott Mutter, followed up his first round score of 74 with a storming 66 in the afternoon to take a 2 shot lead from Dan Brown, with our own Rob Osmond picking up 3rd spot.
Scott's afternoon round was simply flawless as he managed to keep a bogey off his card by knocking in 5 birdies and 13 pars, very solid golf! Well done Scott. As well as a cut to his handicap he also got his hands on a sizable ProShop voucher, the toughest decision he will have is knowing what to spend it on!
Monthly Medal & K.C.P.F.A Cup
A couple of days later there were 121 R&CPGC members taking part in the Monthly Medal & K.C.P.F.A Cup and once again the weather was fine but the winds were strong. The course was yet again in fabulous condition and ready to yield a good score.
The best of Division 1 was
Matt Barron who fired in a superb nett 69 playing off a 5 handicap. Matt's front 9 got off to a flyer with him making 4 birdies in the first 5 holes before putting in 4 bogies for a level par first half. The second half was far steadier but it wasn't enough to seal the victory.
The winner came from Division 2 in the shape of
Pat Cunningham who fired in a net 68, a round which was very steady all the way through, a front 9 of 2 under his handicap and a back 9 of 1 under was enough to seal the victory. Not only did his ProShop account get a boost, his handicap also got cut to 16.6 and away from the 18 where he had been lingering for so long. Well done Pat!
Match Report
In the last week Terry and I have had 2 Captain & Professional matches, the first of which was against
Phil Evans &
Roger Robinson, an annual event which always ends in one result which is a victory for the Captain & myself. This year was no different however Phil & Roger can take one positive out of the day, they moved closer to a victory with just a 2 down loss…quite an improvement on the dog license defeat from last year!
The second of our matches was against another of our annual challengers,
Bob Dench &
Nick Gray and again there has only ever been one result. However, the tables had turned this year as they guys had adopted a new tactic…get Nick to talk us to death! Combined with the boys' new tactic and the Captain's body only fit for the knacker's yards we were condemned to a 3&2 defeat.
Srixon Demo Day

A Word from The Lady Captain Your Lady Captain
Mandy Ellis along with her Vice-Captain
Jan Fitzgerald and KCLGA delegate
Julie King attended Redlibbets Golf Club on Monday 5th June for a 'Delegates Day of Golf'. A very social day of golf was had by all and the weather held out but was rather windy. Afternoon tea followed and prize giving with Rochester & Cobham featuring in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes.
Sue Siddle played in her role as committee member for Kent Ladies with her team coming first.
Also on Monday 5th June, R&CPGC had representatives at Princes Golf Club for their annual Jamboree and I am told that it was not too windy and the rough okay!! Sadly, Rochester & Cobham did not feature in the prizes but all had a great day out.
Congratulations to all those ladies who competed in the 36 hole Maclean and Henderson Cups on Tuesday 13th June. The weather was glorious and the greens were perfect but very tricky! The course was in immaculate condition and even the deer graced us with their presence. After play, afternoon tea was enjoyed with a selection of cakes cooked by
Jan Batchelor and
Diana Usher who both presented the Trophies.
Both the Maclean and Henderson Trophies were won by
Jennifer Stark Duce with
Debbie Hagan runner up for the Maclean Trophy and
Mandy Ellis runner up for the Henderson Trophy.
'Jennifer completes what all Arsenal fans can only dream of...2 trophies in 1 season!'
