Jamaican One Club Competition
Thursday saw the inaugural running of this fun event. Fourteen teams of four teed it up to do battle with Captain Steve’s sense of humour. Taking alternate shots and each player armed with only one weapon, the teams negotiated their way round using a different implement to putt on each green. It was great fun and did wonders for the art of shot creation!
Once the scores were posted it was to the patio, where around one hundred members and friends enjoyed a glorious sunny evening with a Jamaican themed barbecue and a Caribbean cabaret.
By far the best performance on the day came from the Pro Shop team returning a gross score of 43 for the front nine. Among many highlights was a twenty foot putt sunk by Keith, using the putter from Steve’s original set of clubs. But enough about us………..
After some rather dubious adjudication by the competition committee, with harsh disqualifications left, right and centre, prizes were awarded thus:
Brice Bowl
A glorious day last Thursday saw the return of our annual men’s scratch open, the Brice Bowl. A field of 40 took to the course in beautiful sunshine and scorching heat to try and break down its defence and win the coveted prize. However the course definitely had the final say with only a couple of players managing to break par on the day.
Daniel Byrne from Dartford Golf Club took 1st place in the gross competition with scores of 70 and 69 for a 36 hole total of 139, 3 under par. Scott Cullen, from Kings Hill Golf Club, was a close 2nd on 141, 1 under par, and was also the winner of the nett competition. Marcus Sewell and Mark Matthews were the highest placed Rochester and Cobham Park members finishing in 3rd place in the gross and nett prizes respectively.
If you missed out on the Brice Bowl then make sure you don’t miss out on the Rochester and Cobham Park Golf Club Men’s Open on Sunday 6th July! An 18 hole strokeplay event rather than the more brutal 36 hole Brice Bowl, the Rochester and Cobham Park Men’s Open is only £30 to enter, which includes a light lunch and prize giving immediately after play. The closing date for entry is this Sunday 22nd June so hurry, don’t miss out! Entry forms are available from the pro shop and the office.
Pro Am Thursday 3rd July
Volunteers on the day
We are looking for 10 volunteers to help out on the day, for a couple of hours each, either ball spotting on the 1st and 10th holes or to serve food and drinks to the players at the half way hut. To put your name down please come and see us in the pro shop or call us on 01474 823658 where any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Advertise your company name on the day
This year's Pro Am is a great opportunity to advertise a bit about your company with over 150 competitors and many more supporters visiting our club during the day. Please email Warren at warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk for more information.
Coaching In The 21st Century - NEW! FlightScope Skills Application
New FlightScope software allows golfers to assess and benchmark their golf games using a set of virtual targets to aim at during a practice session. Data from each shot is collected and given a score based on the ball’s proximity to the target. Scores are cumulated for all targets, to give an overall session total.
The FlightScope Skills game is custom built for each player, allowing for the number of targets, target shape, distance and size to be set depending on the players goal. Golfers can also create extra pressure during games by adding a time limit and even have targets pop up randomly to mimic a real golf round.
The incredible NEW Skills application will be available to all my students from the 2nd- 20th July. Only a few slots now remain so make sure you don't miss out!
Here is Warren's current availability for a Skills Assessment using FlightScope:

EuroPro heads to Wiltshire
This week Jack Colegate and the EuroPro Tour head to Cumberwell Park Golf Club, just outside Bath for “The HotelPlanner.com Championship”. Jack is hoping to get back on track this week after missing last week’s cut at Astbury Hall in Shropshire. The Red and Yellow course at Cumberwell is set up perfectly for Jack, with large undulating greens requiring a sharp short game and precise pace putting. The tournament runs from Wednesday through to Friday this week and I expect a good result from Jack. If you would like to follow his progress then please use the link below:

"Last week the Captain and I took on Roger Robinson & Phil Evans in our 3rd challenge match of the year. The big question is, would our unbeaten run continue? Or would this be the first pair through to the Challenge Final in October? Unfortunately for our opponents we were fast out of the traps with a mass of nett birdies, gross birdies and even a cheeky eagle! The Captain was in exceptional form much to the frustration of our opponents. Nevertheless the chirpy pair battled on.
Round the turn we went, our minds focused on the finishing line. Howling away at a possible 7 & 6 victory adding further pressure to our challenger's already difficult day. So where would the match finish? Well they say a picture speaks a thousand words, so I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist!
The Captain and I have had some enquiries for extra Challenges, so we've decided to put together a couple of extra dates, which will be released over the next few weeks. If you are interested in challenging please email myself at warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk or call the pro shop.
Thanks again to Roger and Phil for the challenge and a great day. Who knows, with some extra dates maybe a possible rematch is an option.
Junior Coaching now only 2 sessions left!
All sessions will cost £10 per person. For safety reasons I can only coach a maximum of 8 juniors per session, so spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Please contact the pro shop on 01474 823 658 to book each individual session. Golf clubs can be provided but please contact us in advance so we can make sure all equipment is available for the day.
Sandown Races live with Tom Jones
Tom Jones returns to perform at Sandown Live for the third time in four years on Wednesday 30th July at Sandown Park Racecourse. We are looking to put together a minibus or coach trip to and from the club. Prices will be available once we have an idea of numbers wishing to travel so please put your name down at the bar as soon as possible if you are interested in going.
S.T.A.G.S
A great new deal for members throughout the summer. Invite a minimum of 3 guests to an afternoon of golf, and for £30 they will each get a light lunch of ham, egg and chips, 18 holes of golf and a £5 voucher to spend in the pro shop on the day. A fantastic deal that makes a great day out that little bit more special. All bookings are to be made through the office, subject to availability.
