March Monthly Medal
Last Saturday we had 128 R&CPGC members teeing off right up until 1:30pm all vying to get their 2017 season starting off with a bang; but how did they fare?
Starting off in Division 2 there were just 6 players returning home with handicap or better and topping the pile was Bruce Davidson with a very respectable, hard fought nett 67, a round which started with a steady 1 under par nett front 9 but Bruce kicked into high gear returning home with a 3 under par nett back 9.
However taking the spoils in Division 1 and claiming the March Monthly Medal in the process was Dean Lanning with a whopping nett 66, 5 under his handicap; a gross 1 over par. Dean's round was made up of 4 birdies, 9 pars and just 5 bogies.
For their troubles, both Bruce and Dean got a healthy injection into their Proshop accounts but that did come at the cost of a mighty slash to their handicap with both of them losing a shot, well done guys!
Scratch Team vs. Kent Boys
The following day the cream of the current R&CPGC crop played their annual match against the brightest young talent Kent has to offer, a fixture that neither side manages to dominate year after year.
This year was a bit more of a one sided affair, however, with R&CPGC taking the first 4 matches before conceding half a point only to continue their dominance by claiming 4 of the final 7 matches. The biggest wins came from our seasoned golfer Bob Florence (winning 5&4) & the 'Tesla Speed King', Michael Puddy (winning 6&4).
The Men's Scratch team also had a new addition for this match due to a drop out because of injury meaning Mollie Lawrence stepped in at the last minute and also managed to dispatch her opponent with a comfortable 4&3 win. This gave the shrinking violet Bob Florence a golden opportunity to dish out some light hearted banter to the lad Mollie defeated. Watch out boys she may be taking one of your places!

Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.
