Greetings from Warren Wood
Rochester & Cobham Park GC - PGA Golf Professional

Pro Am Thursday 3rd July

Now only 1 space left!!

Counting down the days now...We now have less than a month to go until our Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club Pro Am. We have been overwhelmed by your support for this year and as a result we only have 1 team space left!

To enter a team please download your entry form here or alternatively give us a call on 01474 823 658 and we can take all your details. Last year's event was a huge success and attracted some of the best pro's from the south east. This is definitely one not to be missed!

We also have 2 teams looking for a 3rd member to join them so if you would be interested in joining please give the pro shop a call as soon as possible so we can complete the field. A single entry is £83 for a member and £100 for a visiting player. Entry includes a coffee and bacon roll on arrival followed by a carvery lunch after play, followed by an evening prize giving and auction.

Would you like to sponsor a hole or maybe advertise your company's name at this year's Pro Am? With 140 players and many more supporters it is a fantastic opportunity to advertise your company. Please email Warren at warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk for more information.

FlightScope Is Back!

Warren has his FlightScope back until Saturday 14th June. This high-tech piece of equipment feeds back information from every single shot you hit to Warren’s iPad where he can then show you the key statistics from your shots. These include:

  • Total distance
  • Carry distance
  • Dispersion
  • The spin rate
  • Swing speed

From these statistics Warren can then give you definitive answers on:

  1. If your current clubs are set up correctly for you
  2. Whether there is a better club on the market for your golf swing
  3. If you are having a specific club fitting he can tell you which club gives you the most distance and more importantly the most accuracy!

If this is something that you would be interested in then please contact the pro shop as soon as possible as Warren's appointment list is almost completely full now. He has made available the following times for you to choose from:

  • Saturday 7th June: 07:00-08:00
  • Monday 9th June: 07:00-08:00
  • Wednesday 11th June: 07:00-08:00
  • Friday 13th June: 07:00-08:00

Sunday Swindle and a Magical Hole-In-One!

Last Sunday afternoon Mike and I were invited to play in the Sunday Swindle’s final game of the year. This was a lovely gesture from a fantastic group of guys, just as a thank you for helping them out throughout the year. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day and were extremely grateful for the invitation. The day was an emotional one for everybody involved, with the recent passing of Steve Martin, a regular Sunday Swindle player. In fact one of Steve’s final wishes was to donate a trophy to the Sunday Swindle’s final event of the year, for the player with the best score on the day. The inaugural winner of the “Buzz Trophy” was Peter Hynes with 39 points with Bob Florence and Andy Calvert close behind in 2nd and 3rd place respectively on 38 points.

The day was also remembered for a magical moment by Mike Bush. Mike holed out from the tee on the 17th hole for an incredible Hole-In-One! You did read that right and yes I mean the par 4 17th! Mike sent his driver high and straight at the green. With the pin on the very front Mike had next to no room to land his tee shot, which makes this all the more incredible! Unfortunately due to the elevation on the hole and the trees blocking his view he never actually saw his shot finish in the hole.

“I knew I had a chance of getting to the green as I hit my drive pretty sweetly. As I walked up to the green I prayed it had carried the front left bunker and to my joy the ball wasn’t in the sand. I walked around the bunker and onto the left side of the green expecting to see my ball lying in the middle of the green but it was nowhere to be seen! I looked around anxiously but I couldn’t see it anywhere! I then noticed a fresh pitch mark 6 feet in front of the hole and my heart started to beat pretty fast! I walked over to the hole and there it was sitting at the bottom of the cup. I couldn’t believe it!”

What’s all the more incredible is that I made eagle on the 17th, hitting my drive to within 7 feet of the hole. So between us we played the 17th Hole in 3 shots with my tee shot being the worst at 7 feet from the flag!!

Mollie close 2nd at Frilford Heath!

Last Friday Mollie Lawrence was competing in the Frilford Heath Scratch Ladies tournament. The 36 hole, 1 day event was held over both the famous Red and Blue courses. Mollie finished a close 2nd, losing out by only 1 shot after shooting 1 under par on each course for a -2 total!

Colegate finishes top 20!

Jack finished a very creditable tied 17th last week in the Kerry London Championship at Burhill GC after posting a 54 hole total of -2. Jack has played 4 events now this year on the EuroPro Tour and has a top 5 and two top 20’s to his name. So keep up the good work Jack!

This week Matt Haines is playing at the Tecina Golf Resort on the remote island of La Gomera, just a few miles from Tenerife, on the Challenge Tour. The 72 hole tournament starts on Thursday 5th and runs through to Sunday 8th June.
