Christmas Gift Ideas
Now that Christmas has crept up on us once again we thought we would give you a little bit of inspiration for gift ideas, so we have taken a little look at the 3 options we have readily available.
First under the spotlight is the SkyCaddie Watch which comes pre-loaded with 35,000 courses which are constantly updated so all you have to do is plug it into your computer and with no annual fees required, you can update your watch to your heart's content.
Once you get on the course you will find the watch so easy to use simply because of how the front, middle and back green yardages are displayed. The watch also has Intelligent Automation so that when you arrive at the course it will automatically pick it up so you're ready to go from the outset.
This watch is great not only for golf but you can also use it to record distance, time and speed for runs or bike rides. Perfect for the all round sports person!
Next we looked at the Bushnell Neo XS which is ready for use straight out the box, no need for membership or download fees so the 33,000 courses worldwide won't know what's hit them! Like the SkyCaddie the display is extremely user-friendly as it also has auto course detection and auto hole advancement so all you need to do is look at your wrist and hit the ball, the hardest part will be deciding what club to hit!
The strap is made from a comfortable silicon sports band which combined with the slim design, means that the watch is ultra lightweight so you won't even know that it is there. You don't even need to worry about putting the watch in your golf bag, the screen is scratch resistant as it is made from a mineral crystal lens.
Finally we took a look at the TomTom Golfer 2 and does this have some gadgets on it! Firstly, the TomTom has more courses than the other watches we have looked at with a whopping 40,000, which are updated daily so you don't have any mid round surprises when you hit it into a bunker.
This watch is also very user friendly as the distances display is set out in a very easy to read format, however this watch does also come with a green view so that you check out if there are any unwanted surprises lurking around. You can also use the same feature on the tee to see if there are any fairway hazards and how far away they are.
But the coolest feature of this watch is the auto shot detection which opens a whole new world of GPS watches, with this feature you can now record your stats for each round as well as recording your score, all you have to do is play golf!
All of these watches have loads of cool features and are useable on 10s of 1000s of courses so if you find a course that's not on any of these watches then chances are you could be in the middle of a field!
Captains Log 6th November 2016
The 2017 Captain, Stephen Thouless has given a report on some key events that have taken place already during his reign...
Sunday 6th November 2016
The Captains' Drive In was a great event as I only hit the drive 78 yards and Mandy, the Lady Captain outdrove me by at least 50 yards! The meal was spectacular and the entertainment was amazing. The singers had the whole room up on their feet dancing. A great time was had by all.
Tuesday 8th November 2016 - The Captains First Knockout Match
This event was against last year's Captain and I am sad to report that last year's Captain beat this year's Captain - namely me!
Thursday 10th November 2016 - Captains Match Against The Royal Engineers Golf Society
Rochester and Cobham's team consisted of; The Chairman - Ray Ellis, The Vice Captain - Dave Raymond and IPC - Terry Heaver, who partnered me on the day. Ray and Dave won their match. As for Terry and I, we managed to lose on the very last hole. So overall the match was an honourable half. I will try my best to do better in the future.
Wednesday 16th November 2016 - The Rochester and Cobham Theatre Trip - The Body Guard Musical
Fifty members participated in this event which included travel to and from the venue, a two course meal and the show. In addition, everyone was given a gift of a box of chocolates each. Even though the original star of the show, Beverly Knight was not in this performance, a good time was had by all.
