125th  Anniversary Golf Day

Last Thursday we held our 125th Anniversary Golf Day where R&CPGC members joined forces with 20 teams from other golf clubs; some local courses and some a little further afield who are also celebrating their 125th Anniversary resulting in 96 golfers all doing battle!

There was a very friendly and jovial atmosphere around the clubhouse while the teams got acquainted with their R&CPGC member but don't be fooled the fierce competition was about to unfold.

Once the bacon rolls had been polished off the teams started to wander out to begin their pre-round routines whether that be a full warm up or just a couple of putts to get their eye in.

After 4 hours of intense competition on the battlefield the teams started to make their way back into the warmth of the clubhouse and all getting anxious to see who would come out victorious. 

After returning home with a whopping 88 points Paul Buck, Chris Ward & Tom Travers from Porters Park GC & Woburn GC took top spot with a little helping hand from R&CPGC member Keith Mills. Well done guys!

Wear It Pink

Last Friday we had the Wear It Pink Golf Competition where R&CPGC members took to the course wearing all things pink in an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

Everybody made a fantastic effort to get right into the pink spirit so much so we had to turn a blind eye to the normal dress code for the golf course, I mean how can we kick committee members off the course for wearing a bright pink onesie, eh, Karen Sinden? 
The white sock rule was clearly ignored too with Vice Captain Steve Thouless wearing his customary shorts with knee high pink socks...that's the white sock rule out the window then!

The R&CPGC members got into teams of 4 trying to get their hands on the top prize, the best 2 of 4 stableford were to count but who would be the best? Returning home with 44 points and winning themselves a 4ball voucher to Faversham GC was David Ferrers, Paul Smith, Peter Hewlett & Nick Horne. Well done team!

There was also a Pink Ball competition where only the teams who returned their pink ball had a chance of winning, it sounds easy but it's amazing what a bit of pressure can do to the golf swing! That is unless you have nerves of steel like David & Marjorie Jones and Charles & Maggie Reilly who kept their ball in play to score 18 points and also win themselves a fourball voucher to Faversham GC!

Now it also appears that we had some dishonest souls amongst the contenders and they know who they are just from reading this! The team consisting of Rob Devine, Mark Hutchinson, Mandy Ellis & the ring leader Terry Heaver lost their pink ball on their very first hole but thought they could get away with returning a doctored pink ball replicating the original. It wasn't until eagle eyed John Aughterlony spotted the fraudulent ball when all the scores were being verified, it's no surprise Terry used his powers of persuasion to make 3 innocent people his puppets of darkness!


 

Captain & Professional Match

Last week Terry and myself played our penultimate Captain & Professional match and this week it was Roger Robinson & Phil Evans trying to pose a threat to my unbeaten record, but if they had any sense they wouldn't hold out much hope! As predicted Terry and I run out victorious on the 16th hole winning 3&2.

The R&CPGC members have all posed a serious threat to my 3 1/2 year unbeaten record forcing Terry & I to play some seriously good golf to fend them off, I think our biggest scare came against Vice Captain Steve Thouless and his partner Robin Packer where Steve actually had a putt on the 18th to win the match. Other matches have required us to firie in silly betterball scores like 7, 8 , 9 and even 10 under par which considering Terry makes up 50% of the team just goes to show how hard I've had to work this year!

All of the matches this year have been played in great spirits and lots of friendly ribbing, mainly aimed at Terry but I can't think why, he's such a docile character. Our final victims are John Grace & Bob Davidson and if there was ever 2 people who could use long worded intellectual insults to make Terry quiet, these guys are perfect! 


 

Christmas Offers

Another year has seemed to fly by yet again and it only feels like yesterday we were writing about Christmas yet here we find ourselves beginning to think about the festive period. So here's just a little reminder of what you can expect in the lead up to Christmas...

Lesson Packages

Once again Rob & myself have put together some bespoke lesson packages designed for the golfer who is serious about improving their game during 2017 and getting their handicap down. All packages will be structured so that both the player and the coach are clear on the goals and to track improvement. These packages will be released on Tuesday 1st November and there will only be a limited number available so if you want to get on board then make sure you get in fast!

Advent Raffle

It's that time again where the beloved advent raffle makes its annual appearance, a fantastic raffle where you have the chance to a win prize everyday throughout December right up until Christmas Day with the prizes getting bigger and better the deeper we go into December.
This raffle has proved to be a huge success in previous years resulting in double up prize days being added, we hope for the same response this year so that we can make the prizes even bigger and better than before! Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday 1s November so don't forget to get yours!

Blue Tees

Another favourite amongst the R&CPGC members is the Christmas Blue Tee Championships and that's right you've guessed it they will be making their long awaited return this year! Last year we ran 3 separate Blue Tee events ending with the final showpiece on Christmas Eve and we will be doing it all again this year. The perfect opportunity to burn off those last minute calories before the over indulging commences! Dates and final details are yet to be confirmed but keep an eye out if you wish to play as they do get filled up rapidly.

We will also have the ball personalisation offer again this year which has proved to be very popular in previous years. This is a fantastic offer where you get FREE personalisation on Titleist and Srixon (who are a new addition to the promotion this year) balls. Watch this space for more information coming soon.

Late Night Shop

This one's for the gents of R&CPGC because as we all know Bluewater can be like a cattle market especially around Christmas so while the good ladies are traipsing around the shops, the devoted husbands can slip off to the ProShop and bag themselves a bargain! The ProShop stays open for an extra few hours with some festive music, a few nibbles and a few bubbles making us a far more attractive prospect than the Bluewater herds! Keep your eye out as we will be releasing the date for this in the near future.
