Good day golfers,
What beautiful weather we have had this past week. The sun has been out, the temperature is up and the course is in fantastic condition so I hope you've had the chance to get out and enjoy it!
Mollie Lawrence has been selected to play for England this coming weekend in Madrid, Spain. An eight strong mixed team of under 16's are taking on their Spanish equivalent at the Spanish National Golf Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Mollie currently trains with the England Golf Regional U16 South East Squad and this will be her first time representing the England under 16's. We wish Mollie the best of luck and will post the result here next week.
Captain's Charity Day
Wow what an incredible day we had on Saturday for our Captain's Charity Day! We were blessed with a beautiful, warm, sunny day and a record 168 players teeing it up to raise money this year for the EllenorLions Hospice.
We had huge support from our member's helping out on the day. At the halfway hut Maggie Gill and Audrey Thompson were serving food and drinks for all the players, and on the 8th green we had Keith and Mary Hills, David and Marjorie Jones and Vice Captain Peter Goodsell all monitoring closely for a repeat of last year's Hole-In-One! Sadly nobody holed out this year to win the £10,000 prize.
The prize winners on the day are as follows:
1st place men: Tony Evans, Andy Smith, Eamonn Mullins and Chris King
2nd place men: Joe Hughes, Peter Hynes, Richard Davis and Howard Comber
3rd place men: Phil Challis, Ken Jeavons, Peter Norman and David Young
1st place mixed: Phil Lake, George Penhaligan, Ann Lake and Joan Penhaligan
1st place Ladies: Jo Marchant, Teresa Robbins, Linda Berriman and Sarah Brice
Nearest the pin - Ladies: Jo Marchant
Nearest the pin - Men: Gary Carter
On behalf of our Captain Steve Howard we would like to thank those who helped out as it made this years Captains Charity Day a tremendous success and a great day was had by all!
The Golf Club Secretary's 18th Open Championship Final
On Monday John Aughterlony travelled down to Cornwall to represent Rochester & Cobham in The Golf Club Secretary's 18th Open Championship Final.
(Pictured: The starter waits for John to tee up at the wonderful St Enodoc Golf Club in Cornwall)
"The course was magnificent; unfortunately my golf did not match it. Not one person in the field of 60 managed to beat their handicap; the winner came in with 35 points. Pictured top right is the view from the 9th tee. You can see the green way in the distance however this picture gives you no warning as to what's between the two. A truly wonderful course worthy of its 99th world ranking, with the best greens I've ever had the pleasure to three putt on." John.
PRO AM THURSDAY 3RD JULY
Now only 8 spaces remaining! Act fast before its too late!
Last year was a massive success with a full allocation of 36 teams, attracting some of the top regional Pro's from the South East. It will be a great opportunity to play with one of the top pro's in our region and pick their brains for technical ideas, or just sit back and watch them take on our challenging course. You could be fortunate enough to play with the likes of Richard Wallis, a player in the Guinness Book of Records for the all-time lowest round ever recorded in competition, 14 under par!! The course itself is in pristine condition at present and is sure to be a real test for all!
The closing date is soon approaching for both team and Pro entries so to ensure your place please get your entry to us as soon as possible, either by downloading your entry form here or alternatively give us a call on 01474 823 658 and we can take all your details.
Would you like to sponsor a hole or maybe advertise your company's name at this year's Pro Am? With 140 players and many more supporters it is a fantastic opportunity to advertise your company. Please email Warren at warren_wood@hotmail.co.uk for more information.
Flightscope is back!
Do you want to knock shots off your score and win the money off your best mate week in week out? Do you know how far you hit your wedges?
Well from Monday 2nd until Saturday 14th June Flightscope returns to Rochester & Cobham… this time with a twist! Warren is putting together unique 1 hour sessions on the short game area with the sole purpose to hone in your wedge yardages and give you the upper hand against your competitors.
For any round of golf, 70% of shots are played from inside the "scoring zone" (less than 100 yards from the flag). This is the area where any improvement can have the biggest impact. By simply knowing how far you hit each of your wedges you will significantly improve the proximity to the hole of your approach shots and leave yourself much shorter birdie putts!

New from TaylorMade
Prefer using your 3 wood off the tee instead of your driver?
In that case, you might be interested in the Taylormade SLDR Mini Driver. It's easier to hit than a standard driver and packs a punch just the same.
Designed to fill a growing gap between the driver and 3-wood, the SLDR Mini is a 260cc metalwood, which comes equipped with a 43.5" shaft (two inches shorter than the SLDR driver).
This sleek looking fairway driver for that reason is much easier to control, leading to much more accurate drives.
