Course news

Weather

The heavens well and truly opened this week. We must have had enough rain over the past few days to fill a swimming pool and that's certainly what some of the bunkers have looked like!

The picture was taken on Saturday before the first round of Captain's Prize and believe me this was just the start of what was to come, every green was flooded, massive puddles on the fairways and a storm thrown in for good measure.

Let's hope that we get better luck for the Pro-Am this week!

Captains news

Captain's Prize

It was no surprise that The Captain's Prize was reduced to just Sunday's scores after the deluge of rain... The competition was now a sprint rather than a marathon!

Terry put up nearest the pin & longest drive prizes, all of which were won with some fantastic shots.

Dean Lanning scooped up the prize on the 2nd hole, Damon Robbins took the 8th hole, John Aughterlony cleaned up on the 11th hole & Naz Gill navigated his way to a prize on the 16th hole. The winner of the longest drive was George Crow and by all accounts he hit it so far he had to shout 'FIVE'!

The scoring was exceptionally tough considering how much longer the course was playing, in fact, there was only 6 players out of 133 who managed to shoot to their handicap or better. Anthony Harwood took 5th place with 36 points winning himself a Glenmuir R&CPGC logo cashmere sweater, 4th place went to Dave Peirce who also got 36 points but had a better back 9 and he won a Callaway cart bag.

Callum Swift took 3rd place with an impressive 37 points collecting an Oscar Jacobson polo shirt and sweater vest he will be looking very dapper on the course! Sam Weston fired home 38 points and bagged himself a BRAND NEW Odyssey Works putter which comes complete with the very popular SuperStroke grip.

The winner of The Captain's Prize 2016 was Sean Murphy coming home with 41 points playing off 5 handicap meaning he shot a gross 71, level par! Sean not only gets his name on the honours board and his name in the history books but also kitted out head to toe in Oscar Jacobson clothing & FootJoy shoes, the style guru's wardrobe keeps on getting better.

As we know already, Captain Terry isn't one to shy away from the spotlight and so once again he had to rummage round his wardrobe to find something appropriate to dress up in. Unfortunately he couldn't find anything so instead he went for a Caribbean vibe, complete with a model Cockatoo round his neck offering everybody to stroke it...I'm sure most if not all kindly (or not) declined his temping offer!

Terry seized control of the halfway hut for the weekend turning it into a tropical beach bar with help from Mandy Ellis, Sue Siddle and the saint that has to put up with his antics, Jill. The girls were also keen to get into Caribbean spirit so they were sporting their grass skirts & coconut shell bikini top which no doubt came out of Terry's dressing up box.

Despite the poor weather on Saturday the gang had a good laugh stopping every golfer that passed fuelling them with delicious food and Pimm's! There were mountains of home made cakes that didn't last very long!

Well done Terry for such a good day.

Video of the week

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!

It can happen to any of us…
