Last week we had John Garner give up some of his time in order be an official Product Tester, trying out Callaway, PING & Srixon drivers. We had the ever trusted GC2 Launch Monitor in hand to see if any of the clubs can improve John's driving and after he used each driver we got John to rate the clubs on looks, feel & performance out of 10...
Firstly we got John to hit his own driver which on average he carries 160 yards with a substantial left to right curvature, once we got the benchmark set with John's driver we hooked him up with the Srixon Z355, which made a marginal improvement to John's distance but not a great effect on his slice. Here's how John rated it.
Looks: 7/10
Feel: 8/10
Performance: 7/10
Next up was the PING G Series which did manage to reduce John's curvature and also gained him some precious yardage, he seemed to like the club after giving it the following scores:
Looks: 8/10
Feel: 8/10
Performance: 8/10
However, the stand out club was the Callaway XR which not only reduced John's curvature drastically, it was also going on average 25 yards further through the air and also running out further.
John had this to say 'I carried the Callaway XR about 185 yards & with far less spin than my own driver. As a result I hit the Callaway longer & straighter. If there is a chance to test some clubs under the guidance of your PGA Pro using GC2 GRASP IT!'
John even managed to get a few drives carrying at 192 yards, it's no wonder he gave the Callaway XR these scores:
Looks: 9/10
Feel: 9/10
Performance: 9/10
A little harsh given the vast improvements, surely it deserved 10s John? No surprise though seeing it was being marked by an ex school teacher!
Cleveland Putter
Another new addition to the shop this week is the Cleveland 2135 Counterbalance putter, but what makes it different from the rest?
The main objective Cleveland had with the design of this putter was to help golfers align the putter properly and they have done this by simply raising the alignment line to the equator of the golf ball...21.35mm from the ground. The alignment aid doesn't move relative to the golf ball because of its optimal position for a precise alignment... The dead centre of the ball.
The Cleveland putters also have TFI (True Feel Innovation) technology on the clubface meaning it has a milled copper infused face cap over a Copolymer insert giving ultimate feel and consistency across the face for those off centre hits.
All this technology for just £89.95 and if that's not good enough for you, you will also receive a dozen of the BRAND NEW Srixon UltiSoft golf balls worth £29.95 absolutely FREE! Make sure you're fast though as we only have a few of these wands in stock.
Srixon UltiSoft
In the constant search to improve amateur golfer's enjoyment of the game, Srixon have now developed the UltiSoft golf ball which is designed specifically for golfer's with slow to mid swing speeds, less than 80mph.
The UltiSoft has a low compression E.G.G Core so that it launches higher with less spin resulting in longer, straighter drives. The ball also has a revolutionary 324 dimple system meaning that it will suppress air resistance for a stronger flight in windy conditions.
So why not give them a try, you never know it could a simple change of golf ball that will help your handicap tumble this summer!
John's Fairy Tale Continues
Our Manager John, having qualified earlier in the year, played in The Golf Club Secretary 20th Open Championship Final at Royal West Norfolk on Monday 16th May.
He posted a score of 36 points, a great round of golf from the back plates at Brancaster, but sadly it was only good enough for Runner Up spot.
The winner scored a grand total of 40 points of a 3 handicap!
Still very well played John (although no one remembers who came second!)
