Competition news

Christmas Competition

Therewere 206 people spread over2 days with the same target, the R&CPGCChristmas Hamper. The players weretold by Captain Terry Heaver toget into the spirit and wear something festiveand by George did we get some crackers! With acouple of tee positions being moved the playerswould see some holes in a different light; the 3rdhole was played off the blue teesand was made into a par 4, the9th tee was moved back to overthe road making it a par 5 &the 11th tee was re-positionedmaking it play shorter and from a differentangle.

Therewere some fantastic efforts on the outfitfront and so in case you missed them (whichwould be difficult to do) we have put a few ofour favourites below; our particular favouriteswere Sam Weston who had his SantaClaus onesie and Tony Evanswho had his Rudolph onesie onwhich he claimed was his son's but I think thatwas just a cover up! Of course theCaptain made a great effort too withhis elf costume but we're pretty sure it's fromTerry's disco days!

Saturdaywas a firm test of the player's ability tocontrol the trajectory of their shots with gustsup to 45mph and with the top 35players picking up a prize all wasto play for. At the top we had SteveThouless, Andy Smith & Paul Langridge on37 points meaning a countbackwas needed to determine the winner and the angelsitting at the top of the tree was Paul, making it back to back Christmassuccesses.

Thefollowing day we didn't quite get the poorweather that was predicted but there was still afirm breeze and with 85 people allchasing Saturdays 37 points down,it was going to take something special. Theplayers did put their best efforts in with10 scores of 37 points or better. Atthe top and another countback was needed as RossFreeman, Steve Angus & Damon Robbins allhad 39 points but due to hisback 9 Ross was the winnerand took home the wonderful ChristmasHamper, I don't think he will begoing hungry this Christmas!

Terry Heaver also took overthe halfway hut for the weekend so he could feedthe golfers with all things festive and ofcourse wet the whistle of those who weren'tquite having a good day at the office. Terrywas supported by his LadyCaptain Sheila Grant, his ViceCaptain Steve Thouless and hisglamourous assistant Joan Messant inserving the players and of course the occasionalvisit from Bernie just to makesure Terry hadn't manage toburn the hut down!

OnceTerry had fed and watered theplayers he then went round shaking his bucketfor his charity, The Honeypot whichis a children's charity offering respite breaksand outreach support for young carers andvulnerable children. Now we all know thatTerry is not one to rattle any cagesbut he managed to come out of his shell to raiseover £300 for his charity, well done Terry and thank you to the members foryour generosity.

Staff Christmas Party

Thisweek was the ProShop Staff Christmasparty and we have been lookingforward to it for a while! We unfrozeKeith for the afternoon and left himto man the shop as we headed up toLondon to begin proceedings, ourfirst port of call was the Hippodromecasino which was rather successfulas we made a £40 profit to ourstarting wager of £30...nowwhat could we possibly spend that on?

Nextwe thought it would be best to line our stomachsand so had a bite to eat in The DeanStreet Townhouse, the food wasamazing and highly recommended by all 3 of us!The next stop on the agenda was The IceBar, just off Regent Street, you may have guessed it was a bit nippy in there-5 degrees to be exact! Thewhole décor was made of ice, even the glasseswere ice and so to make sure you don't freezethey give you a warm poncho and ski gloves, it'swell worth a visit for the experience.

Beforehitting the bars we made a stop at the fairground in Leicester Square where aftera few attempts we acquired a purple gorillawhich we named Samuel whichgot us thinking, how can we integrate Samuel sohe can feel at home? Then it hit us. We wouldlove members to take a #selfiewithsamuelto make him feel at home andwhoever takes the best selfie will win a freelesson with myself! So next time you go out toplay why not take Samuel with you?

Unfortunatelythe evening after winning Samuel became a bit ofa blur but I a can confirm lots of fun was hadby all three of us until the early hours ofWednesday morning..
